Dark Fire

I have noticed a number of thaumaturge enemies, mainly Garlean conscripts and the Vault Priest near the end of the Vault, have some "Dark Fire" abilities. For example, "Dark Fire III/IV" is kinda like Flare but also inflicts burn effects. These are not the same arts as the standard black magic spells as taught by THM guild/BLM job crystal, so what exactly are those "Dark" spells supposed to? And how are they different from the "Void" magic used by imps/succubi/etc.?

I thought at first they were magitek, until I saw the Vault priests using it.

I was wondering this myself!

Due to the fact that the Vault priest sacrificed himself to summon those Gargoyles (Voidsent?) I always believed that Dark Fire involved with the Void in someway.

Just like there's Astral Fire, perhaps Dark Fire might be Umbrally charged Fire if such a thing is possible?

I caught an Ascian using this in the Atherochemical Facility too.

Yeah the Ascians also get the REAL "Shadow Flare", not the crappy Arcanist version.

I'm pretty sure the only person in the series I've seen use "Dark" for any elemental magic is Ansem (and Riku by extension). Which isn't technically in-series at all...

i dont know i remember Terra from KH:BBS having dark magical attacks if you fused the right spells.
also Zack from FF7:CC having dark magic abilities if you fused the right magical materia
