how to collect for blue scrips

new to ffxiv. i have lv 55 gear i got from chruning mists and accessories off mb. i cant seem to get 450 for even the most basic thing. how can i get 450. anyone have a good rotation for beginners? i have 580 gp

First, you should aim for 600 gp at least (you can use food)

And, unfortunately, I didn't start gathering scrips until I was lv60, so I'm not sure on the exact stat requirements needed to get enough collectability on blue scrip items at lower levels, but the basic rotation is something like this:

Discerning Eye - Impulsive Appraisal

NOW - Impulsive has a chance to proc Discerning Eye, the rotation flows around whether or not you get the proc

If proc > Methodical (past 57 you can choose to use Single Mind before methodical which will give you an extra gathering chance)

...Repeat until 30/30 then gather

You should basically get 2 Impulsive 1 Methodical, subbing a Methodical each time you get the Discerning Eye proc

If no procs it looks like DE > Imp > DE > Imp > DE > Meth

If you get procs it looks like DE > Imp > Meth > DE > Meth

Once you get to 57 it changes a little bit, using Single Mind if DE procs to get an extra gather.

It actually depends upon what level you are, what what Collectible you are gathering.

Assuming you are focusing on one gather and not both (excluding fisher) you basically have three "tiers" of collectible to get every 12 game hours. Yellow Copper Ore / Old World Fig at 240 Collectability, random items at 360/400ish Collectability, and higher level stuff at 450 Collectability.

For the 240 Collectability you should be looking at :
Swing to reveal.
Discerning Eye, Methodical Appraisal.
Methodical Appraisal.
Gather x3.

When you hit 57 you should be using Single Mind with those two Methodical Appraisals, as well as the one Discerning Eye, to collect 5.

For the 360-410 Collectability you should be looking at :
Swing to reveal.
Discerning Eye, Methodical Appraisal.
Discerning Eye, Methodical Appraisal.
Discerning Eye, Methodical Appraisal.
Gather x2.

When you hit 57, you should replace one Discerning Eye with a Single Mind, and Gather x3.

The 450 Collectability you should be looking at the same idea for the 360-410 Collectability - DE->Meth Appraisal three times to boost the Collectability, then collect x2.

If you are not getting "enough" Collectability per Appraisal, the issue may be insufficient Perception. Boost your Perception and the Collectability per Appraisal increases, to a cap (115 for a Methodical Appraisal, or 172 for a Discerning Eye->Methodical Appraisal combo). Once you reach that cap, more Perception will not help you on that particular item, though it will help on higher level items.

On the other hand, if you're a fisher, I suggest waiting until you hit 60 before you worry with collectibles. Honestly, your level 55 gear that you have now should be enough to gather anything you might need. I love fishing, but collectibles are a giant pain in the a** for it. Once you do hit 60, you should fish for Illuminati Perch in the Hinterlands using Stonefly Nymphs for the first few you get, then use those scripts to buy Brute Leeches to gather the rest. As for Red Scripts, well, those are a giant pain for fishing since in addition to the normal RNG and time restrictions, we have fishing RNG added on top. I'd worry more about getting the gear and Folklore Tomes with Blue Scripts before you worry about Red ones......

I'm confused. How are you getting 2 gathers after doing three appraisals, without any discerning eye procs/single mind? Each of those appraisals without single mind uses a gathering attempt and only leaves one of the four left. Am I missing something here?

Do other jobs have it easy? I found scrip collecting for fishers pretty simple. Illuminati perch are super easy to grab, and for red scrips I just use tiny axolotl. They've only got a 3 hour window, but they have a super high catch rate with brute leeches. Most importantly, it's not very gear reliant. Blue scrip gear is sufficient to catch 4-6 axolotl per window.
