Premium housing, would you pay for it?

Posting this in behalf of a friend.

Before I start, let me state the fact that housing doesn't really give much advantage for either story or gearing, or not any more than extra retainers already do, it's pretty much vanity content, the only part of housing that could be considered advantageous is gardening, which will be added to the apartments added in 3.3 and that everyone will have access to.

The main problem with adding new wards is the high amount of server resources they use, and upgrading servers is not cheap by any means, so I was thinking, why not add premium wards? Something like a monthly rent of $5 for small $10 for medium $20 for large, new premium wards would be added automatically as the old ones fill, that way there's never a shortage, and the money would be used back for server resources for more premium wards so it would be a self-sustaining system.

What about those who don't wish to pay? They're still adding new regular wards periodically, with Ishgard housing also coming out with many wards, basically this would be a service for those who do not wish to wait or do not wish to deal with the current housing shortage at all.

Again this isn't any more game breaking than optional items or extra retainers that people in this forum already support, you still have access to regular housing and those who want to offer extra support to SE can do so while getting the benefit of not dealing with the current housing mess.

No I wouldn't, but it would finally give me a reason to leave the game for good.
At this moment I am in a state, when I am not satisfied with the game but still think it can get better, but definitely not trough triple dipping us.
SE is already getting our money from subscription, retainers, renames, server transfers and also (for some people NOT) optional items on mogstation and merchandise like plushies, art books, soundtracks etc. If they aren't able to DELIVER with these funds, I am not giving them more.

EDIT: Also the housing situation we are having in FFXIV is a result of poor server resources, poor work and poor decisions. I have no idea why I should pay extra money to band-aid poor work of someone, who is paid to foresee situations like this.

If FC houses were in these neighbourhoods and personal houses were instanced, I guess there wouldn't be so much stress on their stone-age servers.

The moment they would introduce the paid housing would also be the last moment you would see "free" ward additions. Why would they do anything for free if they could get paid for it?

I think this suggestion is ridiculous and abhorrent, but I also know that so many people are desperate for a home currently that SE could make a killing off of this if they chose to.

No. SE is already nickel-and-dime-ing us with retainer fees and vanity items while ignoring the underlying issues (such as limited inventory space), and brushing complaints off as "[Pick One:Server/PS3] Limitations". There are solutions to the housing issue, but none of them involve charging players even more than we're already paying.

Quite honestly, you should feel bad for even suggesting this as a fix.

The funny part is that they could deliver with just the subscriptions. But do you know what? The money is going elsewhere, and yet some people defended the "optional" retainers and the cash shop saying that the money would help the game; yeah, sure, not even the sub money is coming back to it, so I'm sure that the cash shop is actually funding or improving it, right?

And do you know what's even funnier? That a lot of people would actually pay real money for these houses. The current gaming community is fucked up, as a whole. But that's not new.

There, my two cents. Now hate me, and keep deluding yourselves, but you all know that what I said is true. I really REALLY wish that this could change, but I don't keep my hopes up about it.

I'm against this for all the reasons everyone stated. Housing should NOT be in the cash shop, end of story. No good, no how.

But I'll also point out that I tend to white knight SE's lack of server upgrades because I've worked in a corporation, dealt with stupid annual budgets and stingy accounting departments, and I know their yearly budget doesn't reset until March. Having new housing in patch 3.3 actually coincides with the time they CAN afford additional servers to hold new wards.

Well one your pricing is all wrong, $20 a month for a large house? NO that system is just crazy, now if it was $5 or less a month for any size house I might think about.
