Veteran Reward: Third retainer

SE's interpretation: "We need to take away all the free retainers and reduce inventory space by 50 slots."

Basically, there is no reason why they would want to shoot themselves in the foot by cutting back their profits. There is a reason why there are a crap ton of necessary items in this game but only a limited amount of storage. They know that people will have to pay a monthly fee for extra storage.

I'd exchange, delete and relinquish my right to use the Strife outfit forever if I could exchange that for 4-6 retainers for free.

It would have to be a high up reward though. perhaps it should be around the 1000 day mark. Especially considering they are making money by selling extra retainers.

They talked about this in the most recent live letter. Sure money probably has something to do with it, but their explanation made sense.

Storing items increases the amount of data your player character takes up. By default you are given a ton of space, more than most MMOs (I mean 2 retainers might not seem like a lot, but isn't that more than 300 items AND the armory too). All of those items you store take up space and increases not only the data stored, but effects data access, every time you start flipping through all your retainers it taxes the server load a little. If they gave like just one more retainer to everyone, then suddenly item usage goes up like 50%. I don't think people pay for retainers as much as people think. I know the people (like me) that like to mess around with market board might have one or two extra.

How badly do you need that first coil armor piece that you haven't glamoured to anything for 15months anyway? I dumped the lot of the stuff I out-leveled except a few key things I liked.

I wouldn't mind more space personally, but I remember my WoW bank never had as much as this game does with no extra retainers.

they already said before HW dropped that they wouldn't give away an extra retainer literally because of server limitations :c (and then put another 2 that you could buy D: )

Server space... Servers are not free to run and the space on them is finite.
You pay for additional retainers because you are paying for that space on the server.

There should be no veteran rewards that give a distinct in game advantage. Retainers are despite the common misconception very powerful gameplay tools not just storage racks.

I'm also against selling them as an additional service for this reason as well.

If they are to ever consider this not paying for a in game advantage all functions aside from storage would need to be removed IMHO.
