If vit gear is always best for tanks then they become like every other job. Simple 1 dimensional gearing. Parity is reached and all they have to do is tweak the outgoing raid damage in future raids to match new hp levels and add a smidge of hp to account for tanks doin max damage all the time.

It's the simplest solution to a smorgasbord of issues surrounding tanks. The idea that it will be some convoluted adjustment to defense is so much more effort to manage as SE.
Wait... it's simpler than actually creating a proper modifier for STR/VIT AP contribution, because we then only have to tweak the outgoing damage and dps checks of every current content raid?

And how would this affect PvP when tanks walk in with max health and max damage simultaneously? They're already plenty strong. Giving them an extra 15% HP or dps output atop that does not cry balance to my ears.

Sure, they'd have gearing parity; as you said, gearing a tank would then be as 1-dimensional as any other job. But they'd get so much more out of it than others, causing imbalance elsewhere. I'd much rather see Vit simply a much more viable alternative with different priorities, the go-to until at least somewhat over-gearing content, but the combination of Vit and Str little if at all improving the overall output or value of tanks, so that we don't have to tweak all content just to make up for it.

That, and because simply, I do like my tanks' gearing not to be one-dimensional. I'll take what few options I can in this game. The only problem is that current VIT is scarcely an option at all. Improve it, and we're good.
