Newish player with some endgame questions

Hey! So I have been playing for a little while now and have gotten a class 58 but still feel like a new player as there are a ton of things I still haven't touched upon in this game.Right now I am struggling to like this game even though the endgame looks pretty amazing because I'm basically on a dead server (Goblin) and my static won't let me play a healer even though we have room for one. I have a few questions about the game from an end game perspective that I am having a hard time finding answers to.

1. Since summoner and scholar are part of the same class, can I switch between them freely and still be effective?

2. Are scholar's any good for raids and what role are they good for?

Any answers would be appreciated and if there is anyone else on the Goblin server that wants to group up and level let me know (currently trying to get my level 27 arcanist caught up). Playing catch up is no fun alone
