Oh. I'm sorry for the misinformation OP!

Take a look here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...y_730k_active/
It shows some interesting results to do with raiding, for example. Ragnarok, Odin and Moogle have the best/biggest raiding populations.
If I'm interpreting the big Excel-sheet correctly, the game had 733k active players at the time of the report. EU worlds in order of active population are as follows: Phoenix (21k), Cerberus (20k), Lich (16k), Zodiark, Ragnarok, Shiva, Odin, Moogle (13k). Phoenix and Cerberus populations are very close to that of the giants Balmung and Gilgamesh, so housing could be an issue there. Oddly the best servers for raiding have the smallest amount of active players. I would have expected otherwise. This report was submitted 8 months ago so I'm not sure how accurate it is at this point.
The fc I'm in on Odin has a constant stream of new players joining and I see sprouts everywhere. At the moment (2 hours before prime time) there are 16 listings on PF including fates, thordan ex and coil. On the other hand, not many people pug savage.
World forums could give you an idea about the community, languages used and potential fc's to join. Good luck!
Edit: here's a more recent one. Check out the "60+ demographics" link. https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...cs_turkey_day/
Seems that Ragnarok and Cerberus have the most level 60 players in Chaos.

Entry subscription lets you make another char on other servers. Just delete it again like 1 day before your transfer, so it doesnt come into conflict with your main char. This way you can still look up prices on different servers you might have interest on
Well you said u had eyes on Phoenix so am telling you this Phoenix crafting mats sells the most
oh sorry about the super late reply really on a JP server you have to get used to auto translate.... its quite the pain but there still are a reasonable amount of eng people on jp servers and biggest is tonberry but take my advice don't go there.... its like elitist central there.
main advantage of a JP server is JP people tend to be somewhat less elitist one death your out like tonberry that's the eng version of a jp world.... and a few other eng servers tend to be like that too Masamune is more calm even if quiet and df queues though like only 5 mins for most things.

That's alright, Valkyrie. I didn't realise XIV was also affected by elitist groups. I'll be sure to stay away from them - I like to think I'm a relaxed player. Zodiark is mainly very friendly, but higher level dungeons and raids can bring the odd rage quitter or two. There's also certain groups that just have no patience and their temperament simply isn't suited for online play.
Does anyone know of any dedicated roleplaying servers? I've always wanted to RP but I find it hard to find an FC dedicated to it, let alone an entire server. Since I'm preparing to jump ship, it'd be nice to find a place I feel at home in.

Balmung and Gilgamesh are the two best known. Balmung, I think, gets brought up more often. That's alright, Valkyrie. I didn't realise XIV was also affected by elitist groups. For gil stockpiling I'll echo raela on the materia especially. Depending on your economy you may find some for less than list price and many more at list price.

Insanity is a gradual process, don't rush it - Ford Prefect

There's nothing official but Balmung and Gilgamesh do have RP. Balmung... it's pretty easy to find FCs. A few of them even have it listed XX-RP. If you walk in Ul'dah you will see it quite a bit and there's usually public event every week. There's a few resources players keep to try and spread info. RPers pretty much openly RP, not hiding it etc.
Take this with a word of salt as I don't play on Gilgamesh, but Gilgamesh RP is apparently there and people are dedicated but you will have to do some digging. There is a website dedicated to Gilgamesh RP to help those on Gilgamesh find their RP as it's mostly in-FC, in LS, etc. Mostly done privately and not out in the open.

Phoenix is high population for sure, I was there a few months before moving to Ragnarok(also high pop being that it's a legacy server), but keep in mind.. high population doesn't exactly mean it's a good server to be on.
You will be disappointed if this is one of your reasons for transferring. Rage Quitters are on every server. Take it from me as a tank. If I botch a pull, someone is going to leave, because oh noes its going to be bad from here on out, apparently. BISMARK is the MASTER RAGE QUITTER trial. That's alright, Valkyrie.
