Why are the gear rewards from quests so bad?

I'm in my 20s now but with all the quests i been doing the gear are either weaker then my current gear or it is barely an upgrade

Why should it be stronger than dungeon or crafted gear?

It gets better, but yeah... dungeon gear is always better as it should be

This is why I make my alts HQ gear... I just use the quest reward as a reminder for what to make and what level I have to be to equip it.

Quest gear is there to give you basic gear to run around the world and water dungeons, where you get better gear. As you get higher lvls, esp after 50, the quest gear improves.

Quests are meant so you aren't totally behind in gear, even if you're too unlucky for dungeon drops or too poor for crafted gear, rather than being where you get the best gear (with some exceptions, some quests give rather nice unique gear for their level.)

In addition to the other advice folks have posted, try to find a Free Company that fits you. Make some friends, and you might find that there are many high level omni-crafters who would be more than willing to help you out with some HQ crafted gear. As someone else said I make HQ melded gear for my alts, which means that I am always wearing gear that is as good or better than the dungeon drops. Crafted gear isn't always the best choice at end game, but for main story quests and leveling, HQ crafted gear is a really great option.

Also, are the quests you're doing on-level? Some people end up out-leveling their quests a bit, particularly in the early part of the game. If you're doing quests that are below your level, then they'll reward gear that's below your level. If that's the case, it may be better to get up-to-date gear from the Market Board or vendors and take the coin rather than gear rewards from quests.
