    Cannot launch FF14 - When I click "play" it flashes to the black screen then quits

    Everything was working great, I went home for the holidays, and when I came back I saw that my computer had auto updated some Windows 10 patch or other. I launched ff14, logged in, and hit the play button.
    As usual, the black screen popped up, but it never gets to the next portion. It just stays black for 2-5 seconds and then quits, no error messages, no hints or clues. I've disabled my firewalls, launched as administrator, updated DirectX, updated data packets, reinstalled multiple times.. I'm at a loss. I do kind of suck with computers (past gaming) so I'm sure there's something that would be an easy fix but... can't find it.

    I can get the launcher to boot up but for actually logging in can't do it cause the login part never appears and then it times out and have to close. But can't contact SE cause they not open on the weekends cause apparently no tech problems ever happen on the weekends.

    Try restarting your PC #1. It happened to me once or twice, but after I shut down and restarted all was well. Also see if there's any other windows updates.

    Do you use Steam perchance? Theirs and Windows recent update did not get along, which apparently caused more than a few issues. If so, you can remedy it by deleting every file in your Steam folder except: Steam, Steamapps and userdata. The bin may or may not delete, but restarting and reinstalling Steam afterwards will fix it regardless.

    If not, then you may have to reinstall FFXIV as it sounds like there's a conflict between it and Windows 10.

    This happened to me as well after the Windows 10 patch of 12/22-12/23. I spent over an hour with MS Tech support and could find no solution to the problem. The Tech tried to tell me at first that it was a SQEX problem. I told him 'No, that the game ran just fine on a Comp which had Win 8.1 as the OS and that the game had played without issue the night before their patch rolled out. Even uninstalling the patches back to 12/19 did no good. As of this writing that particular comp is still unable to successfully launch the game. I do not run Steam.

    I would suggest uninstalling 14 and reinstalling it first of all, I know the wait time is a pain but this has fixed a number of issues for me

    Update Video Drivers. If Nvidia there are another post about it from weeks ago.. you need to make a few changes to make it stop happening.


    Other options.
    Clean install FFXIV
    Roll back updates
