Thread: Is 2.0 Actually A New Game?

It's not, right? It's just SE's way of hyping far-off changes to server structure/addition of content/ui/map design/etc. But the basic classes we have now prior to the release of whm/blm/drg/pld/etc, and characters we're working on, and the present storyline, and all that - it's staying around?

I'm pretty sure that's the way of it from my reading the notes, but want to be certain. If SE wants to charge me a small fee to go on having fun for the next year or two, I'm ok with that. But if they're planning on charging me for a year or two, and then bringing out a radically redone game where all I've done previously suddenly comes to very little or nothing.... then I'm not so ok with it and would rather find other uses for my free time.

They made it clear all our character data will be ported to the new game, yes.

No it's just going to slowly change over the next year and a half. They are saying you will barely notice the chagnges, in a sense. As for the current classes sticking around? no one really knows.

It said in the notes that you will retain your character data, levels, and gil. I don't know about items, but pretty sure that too. When the game is released, you get to remake your character since there will be new race genders and the graphics will be different.

Basically there will be new story, new graphics, new engine. It will be an entirely new game with 1.x serving as the frame upon which 2.0 is built.

But our characters and their classes will be unchanged. Yoshida has promised us that we will not lose any of our progress.

I wouldn't agree with that. The game will be so utterly different and every landmark, monster and player we know will look different with the new version. It's more of a re-release than an expansion, as all existing content will feel different.

No, it will be a new game... including a new game client, running on new game servers with new game features and mechanics.
We are currently playing the prologue.

I wonder, will a new game disc be required?
