With all this housing drama going on...

You know, I personally couldn't care less about rather or not I actually get any player housing of my own. I've got a private room with my FC, that lets me decorate a little bit and have some fun, and that's the extent of what I care about. However, there seems to be a TUN of people around here that are genuinely, legitimately, RIGHTFULLY upset about the way that SE has handled their housing market. With all of this bickering going on, I just wanted to ask something.

FFXI, a game that came out over a decade ago and was supported on the Playstation 2, had this system:

"The Mog House is a one-room apartment that has been set aside in the residential areas of each nation for the sole use of adventurers. Becoming an adventurer immediately entitles you to a Mog House, and you are free to furnish the rooms as you please. Furniture usually adds extra storage space to your Mog House and fills your Mog House with an elemental aura, resulting in special Traits called Moghancements. All rental fees are subsidized by the four nations as a part of the conquest policy taken up after the Crystal War. All Mog Houses come equipped with a Mog Safe."

So why do we, in 2015, not have a system like this? People just want a place that they can call their own, a place that they can fine tune and decorate, show off to their friends. A little slice of the world that's *theirs*. Why can't FF14 do something like this? And if this turns out to be what the apartments to be added in 3.3 are, why did it take so long to add something so basic?

This really shouldn't be a problem. This is a can of worms that should never have been opened. It's just sad to me, seeing a group of devs so fully fail to make a section of their playerbase happy with something that should be so simple.

The simple answer is because they wanted to handle housing differently than FFXI. I'd like to think that, poor implementation aside, many of us can appreciate what they were trying to create with it. It just hasn't turned out at all like they envisioned. I really do like the neighborhood aspect of what they were going for, and I very strongly feel that their biggest mistake was making personal housing available in the same venue as FC housing. If anything, personal housing should've been restricted to the mansion/apartment that's coming in 3.3 and the wards should have solely been for FC's as it was in the very beginning.

I'm glad they're finally implementing the apartments; I think it'll go a long way toward alleviating the issue.

they're also doing a "mansion" system which will be able to house 512 players each.

Q4: We have the auto reclamation this month, but can you please let us know about future addition of land?

A4: We have confirmed that we will be increasing the amount of land for existing housing areas in Patch 3.3. After this we’re planning to introduce mansion type housing, and housing in the Ishgard area. These two are being developed in parallel, but in order to meet everyone’s demand, we will implement the mansion-type housing as a first priority. Currently it’s being planned that one mansion will be able to hold 512 residences. As for gardening, we think this will be difficult, but we’re currently developing new pots that will allow gardening, so please look forward to this.

They dun goofed big time with the resource scaling. I know what they were trying to get at with the current neighborhood system, however, they didn't anticipate such harsh hardware requirements upon adding new plots.

Omg right? It would me absolutely amazing if everyone had rooms!

If it were me, personally, I would put access to said rooms in a very public place that a lot of people frequently visit...

Oh I got an idea! Lets put free rooms in all the Adventurer Guilds in the city-states! This is an amazing idea, someone alert the press!

Oh wait this has been in the game since launch.

Do you people listen to yourselves talk?

You can't personalize the inn rooms at all, nor can anyone visit you there.
That is very different from what actual housing offers -- i.e. a place to personalize, invite friends over, and call your own.

Except you can't put your furnishings in the Inn rooms, nor can you do anything like garden, or color chocobos.

It sounds to me like you're saying SE should put housing in Mogstation.

    That's a horrible, abysmal idea.

Gil is a fake currency and equating real life to a game is absurd. Why are you comparing real life to a game when the game issue is caused by the devs not thinking things through?
