It is no secret that the cost of FFXIVs failure has plagued and burdened Square Enix. They themselves are to blame for any and all economic losses incurred by releasing a poorly developed and incomplete game to people who payed for, and were expecting, a completed game at release.
XIV was dead on arrival from my point of view; it was the loyalty, hope and spirit of the FFXIV gamer community that helped keep it on life support, not Square Enix. It was the FFXIV gamer community that helped steer it's captain, Naoki Yoshida, to where it was destined to go, not Square Enix. If people listened to the bad reviews and stayed away from this game, Square Enix would have scrapped FFXIV long ago simply beause no one in their right mind would buy and play a game that was incomplete at release, and simply because Square Enix would have to cut its losses
Yet here we are, a year later, side by side, the FFXIV gamer’s community and the dev. team, trying our absolute best to make this work. Offering every priceless grain of sand in our short hourglass in order to fight a very real battle against a very real foe, a notorious monster of epic proportions, filled with bad reviews and disdain for releasing an incomplete game. Attacking from every direction, trying to find a weakness in the FFXIV's gaming community’s conviction and in our will to succeed and overcome it. Our battle, far from over, takes a drastic turn for the worse, it found a weakness within Square Enix; one it hopes to exploit.
The notorious monster realizes that the more time passes, the more money Square Enix looses; the weaker it becomes. Suddenly, Square Enix trips and falters under economic distress that it brought upon itself. Casting wildly, hastily and economically taxing spells in favor of the notorious monster and against its most humble and loyal of allies, the XIV gaming community. Risking a years’ worth of work, dedication and progress, Square Enix keeps casting. Harming us and itself at the same time without realizing that if its core players, the FFXIV gaming community falls, the future of FFXIV falls as well.
Finding ourselves locked in an unwinnable battle of two versus one, we clutch our shield to cover our hearts. We feel our hope being bruised, our will being beaten and our love for Square Enix withering. Being overcome by feelings of regret, won't Square Enix snap out of it? So that together we, the dev. team and the FFXIV gaming community, can look back at this moment a year from now, not as a moment of uncertainty, but as a moment where we stood together for the future of FFXIV? So that together we present a worthy PS3 version of FFXIV to people who will be eager, instead of cautious, to buy the game and pay to play?
In the end, I feel it is unfair to pay for a game that is mostly incomplete; you should feel ashamed for even considering it. This is a severe blow to my trust in the Square Enix brand, please do not make the mistake of taking your customers for granted.
Sincerely,
Kolya-alpha/beta tester.
p.s. Keep up the good work, dev. team; Captain Yoshida. /salute
