I don't condone the behavior of buying and selling for profit, but it is not exactly as risky as it seems...worst case you lose 20% of what you paid + housing permit...but you can make all or part of that back using the garden and selling what you grow while waiting for the auto demo to get your 80% back if you can't sell it. It is actually LESS risky than it was prior to 3.1.That and with new housing coming in, and we're going to likely see some more trickling in from demolitions over the next couple months (but not a lot). Doesn't seem a good idea to waste 30mil to get someone to drop a house when if you just wait a few months you can get one for much less.
It will be interesting to see A) where they put the housing (I'm praying for snowy land) and B) how much the plots run - I could totally see them putting a premium on the "hot" new area and raising plot prices. Also, don't forget by then the house transfer system will be in place ...so anyone with an existing house can just as easily buy an Ishgard plot and transfer over their house with all items intact (the way it is supposed to work, anyways) meaning even existing home owners will be competing for the Ishgard plots (aka the entire server.)

I am almost positive that the dev team is fully aware of the housing situation right now. But just in case they aren't I would like to reinforce this thread and many others in the sense that something absolutely needs to be done about this. It was poorly implemented to begin with, especially when "personal housing" came out and was essentially the same thing as FC housing but you didn't need to be the leader of an FC to buy one.
This whole housing reclamation system was also a huge failure timing wise and implementation. People being able to buy multiple houses on ult characters or whatever was just an awful idea. I also agree houses shouldn't have been allowed to be sold by players especially when there is not enough houses to go around. It has created a horrible community image with people selling small plots worth 5 million or less for 50 million instead just because there is none left and they can get away with it.
I am pretty disappointed in SE about this. Of course I love this game and I will still play and support it as long as I can. But it is our right as users of FFXIV to post on these forums in hopes to create change where change is needed.

I wish some of this drama was occurring on my server, it would have been fun to watch while I was meticulously fertilizing my blood pepper plants.

You could, but be careful what you wish for. Ostensibly, you could be just as down and out as others in the thread. Nothing was ever so guaranteed on more crowded servers.

Any update on jenova?
Sorry the comparison but the houses should be like GTA or skyrim. You will receive houses on main quests/dungeons/raids with the game progress. The fair way it's to everyone get a house. Everyone pay for the game, so everyone deserve it.
I am so sad I forgot the day that houses were put back up on the market. It's hilarious to see some of those who were saying "We need housing reclamation, it's not fair for unused plots to be wasted!" to now be selling plots for a profit. I wish I was here for all of the excitement as many people without houses still don't have them, some people who got them are now trying to sell them, and on top of those two aspects that already existed being made all the more raw and aggravating, now some people lost their homes.
Seems like an all around horrible thing to have done. To anyone who actually got a house -and- uses it, congratulations. To everyone else who supported this idea and still got shafted, don't worry, SE still has your money and still doesn't care.
In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.
Bought one at 5:11 am. Found it after I was checking for undercutters on the mb. Still mad about how this was handled. I really want them to make buying and selling houses clear with correlation to the ToS, before 3.3 and new wards are added.
