Except this is a virtual world, there isn't any decay or maintenance required lol. Or do you think all the mobs that dropped gil worked hard for the last 20 years to make it and you took their gil after murdering them?
That sounds crazy o.OWait a minute. Not to derail this grand thread but how do you not pay property taxes in the real world? Different country? Here in America everyone who owns a house pays property tax. You could have your house paid off for 50 years and as soon as you miss your property tax payment the government will take your house. We are all just renting from the government.
It's your property after all! Here we pay taxes depending on how rich we are, and of course the value of your house is included in that (as well as many other things, like for example the value of machines your company owns..if you happen to own a company xD), so yeah I guess we also pay for our house a bit?
But there is no particular tax related to it, especially not for
Why would that be the government's job in the first place? It's your house, YOU do the maintenance! That's expensive enough as it is...
I don't know what country u live in, here in US we pay Property taxes, and it may be ur job to do maintenance on ur property but who gonna do the road, but who is gonna cheap the streets clean? That sounds crazy o.O

Partially...you as the house owner. You have to keep the sidewalk clean, free of snow, the drainage on the street free of dead leaves and so on. If you don't do it you have to pay a fine.
Regarding maintenance of the road: we already pay tax on wages. That's where the government gets most of its money from. There is no specific "money X is gonna be used for task Y" rule in place (and why would there be? Non-home owners profit from well-kept roads too) so the whole budget is basically summed up and then it's getting decided what they need to spend it on - including road maintenance if there is a need for it.
(Of course tax evasion is a crime and you can go to jail for it. But even then your house isn't taken away, so...the US once again amazes me with its weird way of handling things^^)

Do you not know what property taxes are for? I don't know how it is in US, but in Canada (this might be Ontario only), cities cannot collect any tax except property taxes. These taxes are then used to pay for things like roads, plumbing, electrical, etc. Stuff you use, but can't maintain yourself. Shit breaks and they have to fix it unlike in a video game.
Of course, the province (the Canadian version of a state) also gives money to the cities as well.
Edit: Bringing in real world economic systems is dumb because we have to deal with the constraints the real world gives us. This is not the case in a video game. Taxes in a video game are usually used as a means of removing money in the game economy rather than a source of income (since devs can just poof things into existence). However even as a gil sink your idea is terrible and would probably drain all the money out or cause people to be so poor no one would buy houses lol.
