    Character City-State Change

First off, this is purely for aesthetics as I realize that your starting location is based on your starting class. No need to suggest re-rolling or disregarding the city-state info on the character profile.

I am interested in the ability to alter the city-state location in addition to the other particulars with the use of fantasia. Many times as a character, especially an RPer, you might want to forge a new background for yourself in addition to appearance (though it might also be nice to view your character in other job gear than the starting one you picked). This info comes up on your profile both in-game and on the Lodestone. If not with the use of fantasia, perhaps some form of in-game quest to change similar to the GC switch.

Essentially, while this is not a game-changer, this alteration would add a layer of customization that simply makes it more satisfying given the amount of sheer effort put into a character.

While I'm basically not against this, especially considering RPing, your starting City State should remain something special cause that's where you started your adventures. Although that'd mean you'd have to start anew if you really want to change it for RPING purposes.
It would be nice though, if the only way could be to formally sign a request through the GC or at the City State Leaders directly.

I used to go Maelstorm but looks silly and un patriotic so I went twin adder to match my starting city....

like irl I don't see a US grown person serving in another country's military....

But what bugs me most is your starting class determines your starting faction and even the gc leader dialog is slightly different based on starting faction btw.

Somehow I don't think SE are interested in letting you change your starting citystate. Citystate allegiance has been static since version 1.0 and I doubt SE are going to change it now, especially not this late in the game's life.

Also Amber you're wrong about GC allegiance, it is completely separate to what citystate you started the game in - you're free to choose any one you wish, you're not restricted to choosing the one for that city you started at.

And it should be noted that narrative wise your character is a foreigner regardless of what citystate you started in and what Grand Company you enlisted in - your character came from somewhere else outside Eorzea (it's why you join a Grand Company, the GCs are the volunteer forces of the citystates rather than their actual militaries hence they consist of foreign mercenaries and adventurers mostly.).

Even ignoring the Grand Companies, citystate allegiance is little more than a short term thing anyway, as the player's character quickly moves onto joining the Scions of the Seventh Dawn and from then on is usually introduced as a Scion instead of a member of a citystate, so it's rather moot.

Really, if you dislike the citystate you started in for RP purposes, either just ignore the citystate listing on your character's profile, or, just use a little imagination, and use an idea like, "your character might be currently serving that nation but they really originated elsewhere and are secretly in their employ," or something. Be creative! As that is what roleplaying is all about, right?

Eh, stranger things have happened, and a number of changes have come into effect through suggestions anyway, so why not? :P

I think Amber was referring to her desire to have her city-state and GC match.

I don't disagree with you on the final point, for certainly this is a more trivial aspect, but it's a simple customization I'd enjoy seeing in any event. I'm not going to unsub over it, and I do understand the need for creativity from an RP standpoint. Frankly, I'd be fine with the mention of the city being absent from the character profile altogether.

I like my starting city but I don't like my starting class ._.
I only picked it so I could be a citizen of Limsa again and now everytime ai use Fantasia potions my character goes back to a math-loving geek *shudder*
So I'd gladly go with a class that starts in a city I dislike if I could still have Limsa listed as my place of origin

Heh, I feel you. I started as an arcanist in Limsa, but that doesn't jive with my DRK main when I use the fantasia.

Personally I think it would make more sense to set the City-Sate to the aether network you set as your home. I was actually disappointed when I realized this wasn't the case way back when.
