Huge Steam Issue - Be Aware

Since some here are undoubtedly Steam users.

Steam is currently experiencing an issue where users may be able to see the full account details of other users just by logging in. The store is currently shut down until the situation is fixed.

Valve is pretty much not saying anything at this point but I would advise keeping an eye on your credit card and password situation moving forward.

The general advice I've seen is trying to do things to change your account info may expose you to further issues so it appears best to log off and not access Steam until the all clear is given.

You can also un-link your Paypal from Steam via Paypal by going to your account settings, clicking preapproved payments, finding the one for Valve, and canceling it.

Likely nothing bad will happen. Even should you make it as far as a payment page, all your payment information is encrypted on their end. Even if you saved your payment details, the store page itself doesn't know them. It's not allowed to.

Now I don't know exactly how pre-approved payments work. But as part of their merchant agreement, no outward facing server has your payment info in an unencrypted format. It is literally impossible for an identity thief to get your payment info just from the store page, even if they could buy games. It likely just points to a location in the saved payment database and says 'use this one'.

Banks are extremely strict about this stuff, because with credit it's THEIR money on the line, not yours.

This is likely true but some users are reporting have been able to at least see information that they should not have had access to, including at least partial credit card info and personal contact information. My concern wouldn't be so much for purchases on Steam but instead other potential uses of that information on other sites. Until Steam comes clean with the full details of what happened (assuming they ever do), it's better to be safe than sorry.
