I think what Yoshi meant is that there wont be one strict 'MSQ', Krile and the Scions will be off doing their own thing, while another character will be doing the Warring Triad storyline, they'll both be still relevant, just not tied together, I expect for completion of Heavensward, it will require all paths to be completed.

I'm honestly super excited to see the return of totally-not-Elidibus-or-Elidibus'-servant to the plot.

The Triad were introduced because the main antagonist wanted its power, and failed in the attempt to do so. After that Nidhogg came back, and with his concern being on Ishgard there's no reason to throw the Triad into a plotline centered on a final confrontation with Nidhogg and ending the War.

However, the Triad appear to be slowly waking up, a big deal in its own right, but unrelated to the Dragonsong War plot. So understandably it gets its own plotline.

We have seemingly 3 arcs for now :

=> The dragonsong war itself, with Nidhogg doing angry dragon stuff (possibly ending in 3.3 as yoshida hinted Ishgard housing past this particular patch in the last live letter)
=> The missing Scions, Yda and Papalymo being around Ala Migho (seemingly) and Minfilia still MIA
=> The Warring Triad, which includes Urianger's possible betrayal, Elidibus and "totally-not-related-to-Elidibus" Unukalhai, and the WoD group. Or perhaps it's the Elidibus & co arc which includes the Warring Triad. doesn't matter.

If that turned out to be the case, then yeah it would be a reason to involve them in the Nidhogg beef. However that doesn't seem like his M.O. For one thing it's been stated that he could easily wreck Ishgard but deliberately takes pleasure in slowly hurting them, generation after generation. So he wouldnt need the Triad if he fully wanted to end things.

As it stands the Triad have no place in the war between Ishgard and Nidhogg. Unless, as with Thordan, one side seeks to use it to gain an advantage. With Nidhogg being able to decimate Ishgard with his own power, it's unlikely he'll need to seek the Triad's power and it would seem out of his character to do so.

Meanwhile, the Triad can maintain their 'power nuke about to go off' plot in a separate setting without having to tack it into the Nidhogg issue. Same way that Bahamut didn't need to be tied to the major MSQ plot (repelling the Garlean invasion) in order to be seen as important.

I think as we find the last 3 Scions, and trounce Nidhogg into the 8th Hell, and kill/reseal the triad that it's going to all come back together just before 3.xx finishes and we either Retake Ala Mihgo or Take the Fight to Garlemald.

It may be multiple plots for now, but I see it merging back together before it ends.

I'm guessing the whole Warring Triad thing won't be a part of the MSQ, until completion of the normal modes is required to progress in like 3.5 or something.

I only began playing somewhat recently, and I wasn't allowed to progress in the MSQ at some point (I think 2.4 quests?) until I completed Garuda, Titan, and Ifrit HM.
