You know what would make getting into raiding easier for new players? Friggin craftable raid-capable gear.

3.2 crafting gear is going to be within this spectrum and it will be meldable. I honestly thought about just forgetting everything until this stuff came out but where's the fun in that. At the very least I've been trying to prepare a few crafting classes but yeah, I fully agree with you.
Edit: I'd even be happy to be able to create gear for myself that automatically binds on creation. Somewhat feel like crafters get the shaft for anything other than making money during certain points between patches.

3.2 crafting gear will be in that spectrum, but will most likely be far, far out of the price range of any new player.

Mhm, they're likely to be gated behind Scrips (and possibly Specializations), which is going to make them quite expensive. Even after they made the Red Scrip materials more available, it's still around 3 to 4 million to make one of the i180 DoW/DoM pieces on my server.
It's possible we'll see an entry level set, too, though (the Sky Pirate's gear *almost* fits the bill—why it's not i190 I don't really understand—so we might see additional sets like it in the future that might work), but that's just conjecture on my part.
