So the question is, will the current savage need to be cleared in order to enter the next step of savage? Because if yes, those stuck on A3S will just continue being stuck on A3S.

Echoing the earlier statements.
The grind's weird since you acknowledge that on one axis, A4S is too much of the first axis and then you completely ignore that the grind is ridiculously rough on a second axis, or even ignore that there are two axes to begin with. Whatever happened to the massive grey zone in-between? Oh wait, Gobdips will eventually be easy to get anyway, so then... both relic and A4S start to become even more obsolete. Well, okay.
And I still really doubt savage was 'too hard' rather than the whole design of it is just backwards because to clear it you had to take plenty of backwards-mentality decisions only theorycrafters would come up with. On top of that, job balance is still pretty skewed for some jobs while others are (near-)mandatory. Maybe a slightly lesser tuned version, but don't take it so far just because there are so little that cleared it, please. Ilvl inflation will eventually make it easier on its own anyway.

Hmmm... Not a lot of time to discuss Alex Savage future changes in depth I guess, but I'm still REALLLLLLY concerned that tanks and healers will be chosen for future turns not based on their ability to, y'know, tank or heal, but instead based on how high of numbers they can dish out.
I'm sure the future DPS checks in new Savage won't be NEARLY as tight, but this current Savage tier has skewed the perception towards what makes "good" tanks and healers and I really hope the new raid has mechanics to try to skew it back.
So, after reading his thoughts, I find that it's somewhat lacking in actual depth. It seems to me that people are asking for one thing, but the development team seem to be dead set on going forward with the current system in place come hell or high water.
Personally, I feel like there was a lot of great things in heavensward. The dungeons were beautiful, the gear look gorgeous, and I could really feel the hard work and development that went into most of the game up to this point. Past that initial release, these patches feel bland, rushed, and without depth. People are crying for originality, a change from the monotonous ilvl treadmill, something that sets jobs apart from one another, limiting and adding new tombstones each patch cycle, and yet after reading Yoshi's thoughts, I feel like he's really concentrating on the wrong aspects of what people are crying out for.
These are just my personal thoughts, what are yours. Let's keep the bickering, white knighting, SE hating comments out of this and have some constructive, meaningful conversations about Yoshi's comments.

I can't speak for everyone, but in my experience, it isn't really even the idea of a grind, even a big grind, that makes it hard to continue- it's random % chance drops. If you have a big list but you accomplish it a little bit at a time, it still feels like progress. If, however, you go an hour or two without making any visible progress at all, it's a huge hit to morale and makes you feel like you could be doing virtually anything else.
I feel weird, like what Yoshi's saying isn't technically untrue, per se, but it's not addressing the issues we have either.
I found it funny (not in any good way) that they'd start off a Live Letter (so close to xmas, so many issues with 3.x so far, 3.2 sneak peeks - all the current things) with talking about Alex Savage. How many percent of the playerbase does it affect? Practically insignificant. What's more, he goes on admitting that Gordias Savage ended up being too hard - and the solution? Midas Savage will be easier. Like, how does that have anything to do with the current issue? You know, Gordias Savage being too hard?...
I also found it funny, no downright hilarious, seeing that slide about Diadem. I found it hilarious seeing the words "The system as a whole suffered from a lack of set rules." actually written down. This "lack of set rules" is what has been poisoning Duty Finder (see "player disputes"), this "lack of set rules" is what has been poisoning the Market Boards to a certain level - just like the Diadem. Quite a few of us have been saying this for ages, it's just hilarious to see them realise it now. But then again, the solution? On the same slide: "Future content for exploratory missiosn will have more well-defined rules." Um, and what about the current content, again?...
The Anima Weapon - that's really all fine and dandy, but none of it talks about the issues we currently have. Goes on drawing an equal sign between Gordias Savage and the time and effort required for Anima Weapon...ok, fine. But Gordias Savage has been out since, when, August? Now it's December. The same time and effort is great, but it's completely overlooked that we didn't start working on the relic at the same time as others entered Gordias Savage. And with the ... nature of the ... content that the Anima questline is, it's no wonder that everyone's curious about the reason for its delay (delayed twice, apparently), save for content padding ofc.
It's just ... all very weird. And this all stems from a botched-up top-of-the-top tier piece of content. ... Yeah, idek what to say to that.
Sounds like things are on the right path, atleast they listen and am glad they are standing by their decision with the anima weapons.
Anima: I think if you want to use the Relic for the bleeding-edge raid scene RIGHT NOW, then it's probably a waste of your time considering that it looks like the Midas drops will be better than it and you won't be using it between feb-june.
BUT for the casuals like me who were just going to eventually get the relic, maybe wait for a nerf, etc...this is GREAT. I feel like there's no pressure to get all the tasks/gil until June, maybe later if it's patch 3.3. All the pressure is gone, I feel like I can just take it nice and slow and enjoy myself doing it and I won't be behind/missing out on anything by not having it for a while.
Happy with housing, PvP, dungeons, trials, exploratory missions, savage changes...IF they actually get implemented and work AS INTENDED and promised. I have high expectations, and I'll be looking forward to see if they get met.
Good letter.
Correct me if I read your message wrong, but how is it insignificant to talk about the most relevant content for end game players right now? It has been a discussed topic nearly every day and yes many people have quit over it's poor raid structure.I found it funny (not in any good way) that they'd start off a Live Letter (so close to xmas, so many issues with 3.x so far, 3.2 sneak peeks - all the current things) with talking about Alex Savage. How many percent of the playerbase does it affect? Practically insignificant. What's more, he goes on admitting that Gordias Savage ended up being too hard - and the solution? Midas Savage will be easier. Like, how does that have anything to do with the current issue? You know, Gordias Savage being too hard?...
Now the team is doing poor balancing again in the other direction. They care way too much that their casual base gets 100% of the content instead of the 95% they already have. So yes, it was something that needed to be addressed because it has gotten bad to the point that some servers end game wise are barren now because people want to jump ship to populated end game servers. Now is their solution the right one? No, they are just going to have the new Alex(Normal) be irrelevant content in just a few short weeks and many are going to beat Alex(Savage) before the next patch and complain there is nothing hard in the game.
At least with Alex(Normal) being on par with Final Coil and Alex(Savage) on par with Savage is now, maybe even a little harder, this would definitely stretch the content out two patches. Then when the next raids come out, you put a echo buff on Normal Mode, and don't touch Savage except put an ilvl on it so you can't out gear the content, always giving hardcore players something to go back to if they didn't complete it.
I'm sorry, I shouldn't be speaking common sense, SE obviously doesn't listen to it.
Yes please! It looks this way. Hopefully SE would've learned their lesson from Final Coil and Alexander Gordias Savage.
