My advice is to login on the 25th not expecting a house plot to be open (or already scooped up by others) that way your not disappointed upon logging in.

You better login early ( and by early i mean server time not local )
But... I already talked about it on my previous posts.

You can see which houses are claimed when zoning in from outside or the town aethernet when you select a ward, so it won't be that hard to spot the empty ones.I dont really want to be that guy but with the amount of ppl trying to get a house there is a very high probability that if:
1, You dont know which plot in which ward will be demolished.
2.You dont camp in front of said plots starting from the 24th before midnight throughout the whole day of the 25th ( since we dont know the exact time ).
You will not get a house.
I wasnt joking when i said they will probably be all gone within minutes.
Based on the reddit post, it's very possible that they don't come open until around 4am est the day after Christmas. That's 45 days + 25 hours after servers came up, and there have been about 25 hours of all worlds maintenance since then.
It won't be before 8AM EST Christmas.
This is a quote from the email received by me on 12/16:
Type: private estate
World: Coeurl
Plot: Plot X, X Ward, Mist (I hide this, but the plot in question won't be removed, so.....)
Removal Date: 2015-12-25 05:00:00 (PST)
*Days related to maintenance, server outages, or other times when the server is not operational (“Maintenance Events”) do not count towards the total inactivity time period. As a result, the actual removal date may be subject to delay due to such Maintenance Events. (The removal will never occur before the aforementioned Removal Date.)
We've had 2 1/2 hours of maint since then, so possibly add 2 1/2 hours or more to that.

I'm betting that the time you were given didn't include any of the maintenance from the timer start until you got the email, otherwise the timer started almost 2 days before the servers came up. There was over 22 hours of all worlds maintenance before your email (plus the day long patch maintenance).
It's beyond belief that they will not expand the housing wards to accommodate more houses. It's very unfair to lock so many players out of housing because they can't be bothered to expand it.
They actually just announced on the Live Letter that there will be more housing wards added in 3.2, with an Ishgard neighbourhood sometime after 3.3.

Tis the season for houses!
"So what are you doing for X-Mas?" "House Hunting" "Oh really?!" "Yeah can't wait for those lots in the Mists to free up!" "The Mists....?" "Yeah...in FFXIV...."
