    The Flagship

Most Allagan structures have a fairly consistent sci-fi appearance. The Flagship of Azys Lla is not like most Allagan structures. I'm perplexed by its architecture, given the random crescents and the oddly shaped spire that extends downward. I wonder what logic was behind its design, or if it was a makeshift assembly of smaller vehicles and components.

It's a shame Azys Lla is neglected by version updates outside the Warring Triad story arc. So many things unexplained.

Azys Lla seems like a very touristy place for the Allagans to show off their accomplishments. Fractal Continuum was a museum, there are a lot of nodes talking about crewmembers + acting very tour guide-y. I'd image the Allagans made Asys Lla a tourist location due to it's high security and location, since they probably did not want to risk potential scenario where their displayed captives escapes like what Sophia planned on doing.

So it would make sense that the designer(s) of the Flagship would include as much filigree to show off the flag ship which might explain those weird weird shapes

It's a shame that the place is neglected to could offer a tidbit of Allagan history, there's so many locations there that could be potential dungeons or at the very least sight-seeing logs.

Well, the Cathedral, at least, is known to have been a structure dedicated to the worship of Sephirot, lifted directly from Meracydia. myahele has a good point in that the whole thing comes off as a showcase of Allagan Imperial conquest (although it's also an R&D centre); the Cathedral and its ilk are likely a part of that.

Anyways, on-topic, do we known when exactly Azys La came into existence? It certainly does seem quite different from Dalamud and the Crystal Tower. My current theory is that those latter two use older aesthetic sensibilities from the time when Xande first reigned; since Nihilist Zombie Xande designed them, he would have used an aesthetic contemporary to his time. Azys La and its Flagship, meanwhile, either predate or didn't involve Amon's pet project Emperor, so they use a more "modern" style.

Well we know the flagship likely predates Dalamud, we discover in the Triad story that the prisons of the Fiend, Goddess, and Demon were likely prototypes of what would later become Dalamud.

Some of the nodes in Azys Lla talk about when it was abandoned (references to several thousand years since the last maintenance, etc) but I don't think any of them talk about when it was first made.

Ahhhh but you are on the right path in guessing that, Zohar.

Here's the really interesting part... when you fly around that zone a little more, you will also see a cathedral and a handful of ancient ruins that seem VERY similar to those found in Cartenau, Qarn and Mor Dhona.

The Allagans were somewhat very spiritual at some point before evolving into the sci-fi masters of the universe that we now know them to be. More information on their technological advancement can actually be found in the dialogues that take place in the Sirius Palace and World of Darkness raid runs (watch those cutscenes again).

This is what makes that whole Azyz Lla zone very interesting... and I reckon that with the Gration perpetually perched there, the empire are every bit as curious as us about deciphering the secrets of the Flagship. Hopefully, the 4.0 expansion will tell us more.

Speaking of Azys La, I kinda wish that in a storyline fashion we could work on fixing some of the maintenance problems of the place and get it back in working order. While things like chimera manufacturing and whatnot should be shut down, I feel sad seeing evidence of such disrepair.

We'd probably have to boot the Imperials out and defeat all of the Warring Triad first. And check if Tiamat is actually okay with restoring Azys Lla first.

That said I totally see that Imperial airship being a proper dungeon at some point in the future.

I feel like all of Azys Lla is (was?) massively underutilized. We go on a tour of the islands while pursuing the Archbishop, meet Tiamat, and have our climactic confrontation in the ARF and Singularity Reactor and... that's it. A magical seal is placed on the ARF off screen, and we go there to punch out the Triad when they start waking up, and nothing else happens on Allag's old R&D Center slash Tourist Haven.

Like... what the hell is the Habisphere about?! It's got an entire control island! What's in the Mobile Supply Cache? Quarantine Block? There's just so much unexplained stuff up there and we spend so little time it's... kind of sad, in a way, that they put it all in the game world and we know nothing about it and have no reason to visit except idle curiosity.

Depending on how expac dependencies are handled (what with the alleged skip option), they could either be leaving room for 4.0 content, or they simply ran out of time to fill the zone. There are buildings and entire islands standing empty as potential quest hubs that just make me sad to look at right now.

Of course, I just find the entire place tragically ironic.

Speaking of which, why does Azys Lla make the sky look like a toxic waste dump? Corrupted Aether? The sky looks like it has a pollution problem that would put Los Angeles to shame.
