Lots of lag during the evenings

I seem to get a lot of lag in the evenings until about 10:30 - 11:00 PM CST when it clears up. Spells will not fire for a few seconds or things will stop and then suddenly catch up. The only thing that fixes this is using things like wtfast and pingzapper. I'm tired of having to pay for another service in addition to my internet to play the game during those hours. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? I live in the midwest and use Jaguar communications.

Edit: the lag is only in this game, everything else works great.

Getting the same. I lag from roughly 4-5 pm until I go to bed at 2 am eastern time. I'm *right* by Montreal servers. I have a 30/10 connection. My internet is extremely fine for other stuff even if I'm the only one connected in my home. I have 60 fps when I check system configuration (and it can drop, it just doesn't).

I'll see people move, stop, move, stop, move, stop. I'll have annoying delays at gathering nodes between attempts. I'll have stuff giving me 'does not work' messages. Stealth of gathers going on and off immediately even if I just pressed once. When I choose a teleport destination, it'll wait an extra 0.5 second before starting the cast of teleport, while in the morning/afternoon it doesn't.

It's very frustrating, now that wtfast is taking away its free option it's an issue again for me. I just want to know if its something Square is aware of and can fix or if I have to look elsewhere for a fix.

It is a routing issue your ISP needs to address---be that directly with your assigned peering partner or by assigning you alternate peering. That is why the VPN improves it. It is bypassing your routing issues.

Results can vary. Most have a free use policy so you can test their tunnels out. A lot of people have had success with WTFast, but there are lots of options--don't necessarily have to use one of the gaming ones to prove the point to the ISP. Groups like PC Magazine and such routinely do reviews of VPN services and publish top ten style reports...can Google for ideas.

I used the free option from tunnelbear.com's VPN (500mb/month, more if you promote them on social media) for testing to demonstrate it for Time Warner. I found that tunneling to Montreal wasn't always best, but it was better tunneling to another region in the US. That is the trick to VPN's--the ability to try different tunnels to find better routing options to where you are going.

Note the plural form: tunnels. Most will have multiple endpoints to tunnel through. If the default/auto config doesn't make a difference you usually can choose a different location. The goal is to get routed differently than you are from your ISP. For example, if your problems are on Level3's car2 lines in Montreal you want to test tunnels that don't still put you on those lines. Can run a tracert to the lobby servers to see if/how the route changes.
