Do i have to have a finished 2.x zeta weapon in order to start the anima quest? Or can i jump right in?
I gave up on relics during the atma phase, lol.

No... you don't need a zeta.

Yes. By sacrificing a zeta you can skip the first "grind" step of the Anima. That step is a fate grind of the HW zones for crystals. It is similar to the Atma step.
You can skip grinding Luminous crystals if you turn in a Zeta weapon.
I went and ground out a set of crystals anyway to satisfy my curiosity and to open the potential for making a 3rd relic (I had 2 zetas already); the process took me about 10 hours if that's anything to go by. It's definitely not as bad as pre-nerf Atma drop rates, but it's probably not something you'd want to do without taking breaks either.
It's a two day at most skip if you have a Zeta. A Zeta takes far longer to get.
Yeah took me about a day...granted there was a break for food, and roulettes, hunts between the 3 hours before reset.
