Well in my experience I do NOT trust pug groups especially in a 24 person raid or any raid for that matter. If a tank wants to leave Grit, shield, defiance on then go for it. I rather have a tank that is ready to do their job then have a tank who thinks they are a dps for the WHOLE freaken fight.

Besides this whole thing is pointless... lets wait and see what 3.2 does to tanks... for all we know tanks may have their over all dps lowered to the point that it wont make any difference rather you are in tank mode or dps mode.

I rarely get out of tank stance unless the boss goes into certain mechanics for a short time which will allow me to stance dance... other than that I see no difference in any of the dungeon runs I do. If the dps are good the adds melt away and the boss just fall to its knees... This is just mindless dribble coming from players that think stance dancing makes you some kind OP tank when in fact it really doesn't change anything. At the end of the dungeon, raid or whatever the only difference is about 2 mins....

Lets see what happens in 3.2 for all we know this current meta will fall off the face of the earth bc parry might actually be useful or vit might actually increase atk power and aggro.... str just might be a thing of the past. For all we know agro in dps mode may be nerfed to 1.5x to 3x instead of 5x which will leave the party screwed if you go all out in dps mode. I don't think the devs intended for tanks to go full blown dps mode all the time. I think the devs intended it for solo and tank swapping or on rare occasions during certain mechanics in raids and dungeons.

Tanks are meant to be meat shields so that's how I play the job... anyways we shall see what comes out of 3.2... hope you guys are ready for some changes....

I really don't care what any annoying player has to say about this issue.... its mindless dribble and all it does is create more issues in game. Crap like this is all over the servers in game and it really confuses the heck out of people, which kinda makes them think twice about tanking. And we all know where this will lead to..... shortage of tanks.

In Void Ark, unless I'm lucky enough to not be one of the main tanks, I always keep Shield Oath/Grit on (I'd say Defiance, but I don't have a 60 WAR quite yet). As a rule of thumb, in randoms, you want to play it safe, because you can't assume that your healers are in any way geared beyond the minimum, or are competent enough to not need that extra 20% mitigation. So any time I'm taking autoattack damage, I stay in tank stance.

The enmity boost is also helpful for newer tanks, because there's no way a tank in fresh 175 gear will be able to hold enmity off a 200+ SMN, DRG, or MNK without it (I even have trouble as a 185 DRK in those circumstances while keeping Grit on).

Point being, stance dancing requires confidence and competence from not only the tank, but the healers as well. If the stars align and there is magically tremendous synergy between yourself and the healers (and the rest of the group), and communication happens and everyone agrees to it, then you can stance dance with safety, but in general, there is absolutely nothing wrong with staying in tank stance in DF groups.

Try keeping aggro from a 210 BLM without using tank stance

My general stance...on tank stance....is that if you will eventually suss out when you can drop it and when you should put it on. You don't want to be edged out oh hp by a hard hitting attack, and at the same time you don't want to be stuck twiddling thumbs without drk mp/whatever plds do.

Understand how to maintain hate outside of grit, and you will have a lot of satisfying options open.

Haha I find this seriously funny. Every MMO end game content almost all tanks switches to both dps and tank. Once a certain threshold hits pump that str. That's in almost every MMORPG. So why is it new now I'm not sure. Let's be honest the only reason why it's a huge war because healer claimed they're max out healing tanks. Only thing vit does is allow maybe a few extra heals since healer can recover more mp. In other words healers want to dps and so does a tank. Only reason tank wins this war their dps generates aggro. Only problem they go full str with low gear and skills. I love being a tank a str tank however I'm a tank and I take pride having the most HP in a group why I love WAR so much they fit my play style to the fullest. Heck I rather be a str tank in tank stance to dps stance. Staying alive and hitting will beats dying fast for a few strong swings.

People also assume someone is going to do the right thing. I hate tanking the 24 man's. A dps will pull to get things going and assume a tank will pull off of them. All the tanks sit there and figure oh that other tank will pick it up. Which may never happen. Especially when no one talks in chat it can be annoying.

Also a tank/dps vs grp dps seems to be the issue with dps tanks. as a healer you tend to get two types. The guy that thinks he is awesome you have to spam heals to keep alive and can't dps myself. And the tanks that understand their role and do both great dps and threat and cool down management.

Yeah it's a misconception. Yes full str owns let's be real. In a meta like FFXIV after the first dungeon run I was like "hellz yeah I'm a str base with vit equips all day and branch when items become stronger" little did I know how much skills it takes. However tanks these days trying to do a high insane gear dungeon with 10k hp but mobs hitting 3-4k damage and then blames healer just not making sense.

Naw I'm a jerk.....if dps wants to tank be my guest. Surprise the world.

Ive never been in a dungeon and seen mobs hitting that hard honestly. Maybe I've not been paying attention. I have like 17k health in full slaying though.

If you have a Ninja worth his salt in your group it's easy.
