I got to give you people credit.

To those who main a DPS since day one, I salute you. Coming from other MMOs such as "DC Universe" and "Final Fantasy XI" where I was either a main healer or main support, I decided to be a DPS this time.

Although I started this game as a CNJ, I became a BRD by the end of October 2013. When ROG released, I ended up making it my main to this day. When I sit and think about how much work I have to put into my NIN, about how much I have to stress keeping damage up, it's a LOT of work. One false move can sometimes knock you down on the dps charts.

While I definitely enjoy my NIN, I sometimes can't help but wonder if I made the right choice. For solo play, I'm fine. But when I get into groups, it's a whole new ball game out there. I considered going back BRD, but from what I read, BRD is expected to deal tons of damage as well since the inclusion of Wanderer's Minuet. I did like how I ran a dungeon on BRD, and the tank pulled about 6 mobs. I somehow stayed Number 2 on the list by hitting each mob with both "bites" then refreshing those with "Jaws" by scrolling through each mob in the list.

But, yeah... You career DPS players deserve more credit than you've been getting.

yeah ppl say DPS is the easy "role" but thats not always true , sometimes tank or healer have the easy role ....

one thing is easy / hard other is responsibility....and tanks is the one that is usally the one that takes the most responsibility. Healers are in the middle i think

I also come from DC universe online and so I know how its a popular belief that DPS always have it easy. Whichever role has it the easiest seems most dependent on the fight at hand, but people tend to forget that.

Yeah, DPS is hardly "easy"... not sure why people think so.
Like for instance I wanted to try endgame tanking, so my friend and I went into Alex Floor One (normal mode...I don't like tanking). I was like "so, what do I do?" He told me to just keep hate.
I swear I was falling asleep by the end of the battle, while if I had gone DPS like usual I would've been way stressed out.

Clearly, the best Final Fantasy character is Locke Cole.

I've recently started leveling other jobs so I can be more aware as a healer. Holy cow, DPSing is not easy. Bard isn't so bad, so far. But DRG? I practiced the level 50 rotation on a dummy for a few days off and on.

Then went with a friend for level 50 roulette, as DRG. I tripped over the rotation soooooo much. I haven't been back on DRG since. Not giving up or abandoning it, but geez.

I started as a DRG then went pld for a few months when I was in the mood to tank then went bard but the amount of rng procs that you need to have low ping and fast reaction time to hit all procs immediately or your dps drops. Then I moved onto monk and now I never play them other 3 classes cause monks are so much fun.

So try playing a monk cause once you monk you never go back to another class

That is one reason why i like this game. Every role have almost same amount responsibility in the endgame content. If dps is bad, boss will enrage. You need learn to play your job and can not get carried regardless by role.

Exactly! It's a lot of fun and each fight can switch around who has the hardest role! I salute all dps because of que times I was bard till final coil than I switched to tank, Fc and static didn't need any more bards.

Thank you for recognizing that OP. To be honest I have played other online games (FFXI, WoW and EQOA to name a few) where DPSing really was a braindead role. I'm glad that in FFXIV they designed this differently. This is the first MMO where I have actually felt pressure to perform as a DPS. One wrong move or a screw up in rotation/priorities/timers while dodging everything and dealing with mechanics and the group definitely feels it. In this game from what I have seen so far there are fights where it's all on the tanks, all on the healers, sometimes all on the DPS and it's a good thing it actually requires skill and not just good gear to be able to perform well.

I think it's more between two type of mind. DPS ask for a mind to know a routine perfectly and apply it. Hencefor a good memory while beign aware of the surrounding. Tank ask a more reactive mind, be able to judge on the current situation and that at each second. Healers are a inbetween. There is no easy/hard class. Only less efficient players.

P.S. Note that i didn't used "bad players" in the last sentence. Everyone have their own limitation.
