Why do I Tank? Well, because it's fun. It can be nice from time to time to absolve myself of most responsibilities and be a DPS, but it's so great to be able to do something more. Something to directly support a party. Tanks are, above all else, enablers. Of all the roles, their responsibility is the most skewed toward the goal of enabling your party to perform their roles at maximum efficiency and making sure it's as easy as possible for them for them to do so. I can control the monsters to make sure everyone can hit them. I can control my equipment and cooldowns to keep healers at ease. I can control my utility to minimize threats that I cannot outright prevent. When it all comes together, I truly feel like I've protected something.

    This is why I Tank.

Because monsters ignore me if I'm not a Tank. I guess I'm an attention whore.

I was a SMN at the start hit 50 and well the lack of tanks made doing any thing a pain in the arse.

That made me go screw it if there is no tanks around might as well become one and enjoy all the free instant partys and well never looked back.

I all so happen to enjoy been a tank its fun can be a pain to learn some fights and the fact you are expected to know every dam boss fight inside out and to teach every one how its done.

I like how a healer or dps can go its my first time no one could care less say it as a tank did you watch the vid NO WTF you are a tank you have to know.

Because of queue times. When doing the story, I like to get my dungeons and trials done in a reasonable and timely fashion. DPS queues are horrible, even healer queues take longer to pop than tank. So, Tank was the only logical choice for me

Once I get to 60 and all MSQ complete I'll go level what I feel like playing.

I love the Warrior concept of being tankish while still being able to do quite a lot of damage when you need. I love being able to dance around in a mosh pit of mobs. And I love being able to proceed through dungeons at exactly my own pace.

With that said, I haven't actually been playing my Warrior much since getting my Bard to 60. This is almost purely due to the stress involved in doing lots of new-to-me content as a tank, where people will frequently tell you exactly how they think you're doing it wrong. Pulling too many, not pulling enough, going too slow, going too fast, facing the wrong way, not in the right position, moving around too much while dodging AEs, and on and on. I've also had micromanaging types complain about exactly what skills I was or was not using at any given time, which I'll cop to as there are just so many of them it's easy to forget I have some on occasion!

Whereas nobody ever complains about what I'm doing as a Bard.

I agree. That's kind of why I don't tank much of end-game stuff. People feel the need to constantly micromanage your play style to the point where you're wondering if they're paying more attention to you than the actual battle. I just need to cap my tanks because I'm a 100% perfectionist so I spend most of my tanking experience doing various fates. X3

I tank for the Instant queues
    I tank for my friends
I tank because I was in a dungeon with a tank who sucked at their job
I tank because I know all dungeons
I tank because it can be challenging
I tank because I will level all jobs to 60
I tank because I want to show off my fashionable tank glamours
I tank for the experience of tanking
I tank for the achievement that will give me a mount
    I tank for fun

Was leveling MRD to 26 to get Mercy Stroke for my DRG and once I hit 26 I couldn't stop and fell in love with the job, and tanking in general.
