1. Yes - I still have quite a bit of content to do that is still quite fresh to me, so it's not hard to keep myself engaged.
2. Since August, so a bit over 4 months.
3. Nope - could never really get into and connect with other MMOs recently.

1. For the most part yes

3. No
1. Can't outright deny this but I can't confirm it either.
2. Started with ARR October/November 2013, took a break from Feb to August 2014 and been playing it ever since then.
3. I took a break from MMORPGs before I initially started, but before 08.14 I played Destiny and WoT(in case this counts).

Are you currently satisfied with FFXIV? overall yes
How long have you been playing FFXIV? 7 months
Did you leave any other MMO in order to play FFXIV, and if so, which? WoW
I think it's important to note I'm not at endgame yet and I haven't done HW crafting.
I loved the crafting up to 50. I used to like it in WoW but the changes in WoD reduced it to click button, wait and then get an NPC to make the item for you. I've spent a lot of time crafting in this game.
The story has been brilliant, too. WoW puts frequently puts major lore developments in books requiring an additional purchase. I always thought the story should be told through the game
Housing has been the only real disappointment so far; the promo page offers you 'your own little slice of Eorzea' so I had no idea it was so limited.

Are you currently satisfied with FFXIV?
For the most part, yes. But, there is still room for improvement on several features and systems within the game and we could use more variations in content as well more (daring) innovations.
How long have you been playing FFXIV?
Since the 1.0 Alpha back in March 2010.

I "left" FFXI for FFXIV, since most of the things i wanted to do in FFXI required a lot of free time (i didn't really have at that time) and so i was looking forward to Square Enix's new MMO project. Eventhough it had a rough start, it did get my full attention and never let go.

This is a really interesting topic to me as well, I've also kind of been taking note of patterns within the population currently of ppl that started in 1.0, 2.0 and new players. I definitely agree with what you say about 1.0 players, they are taking whatever se gives and either running with it bc they have invested so much already or they are quitting the game bc enough is enough. To me the 2.0 wave of players is the most disillusioned/disappointed with the direction of the game and lack of innovation. As a 2.0 player I would say in general I really like the game but the predictable patch cycles and other similar repeating patterns within the game are the most worrisome bc it just feels so stale. From what I have observed, new players and very casual players are very satisfied with the state of the game bc they haven't experienced the repetition.
I think that it would be interesting, however, to see the correlation between how long people have been playing the game and if they're currently satisfied with it or not, if there's one at all. From what I've observed generally, 1.0 players either are in so deep that they really will just take whatever SE throws at them or they've grown tired of giving them second chances. 2.0 players are similar, though I think more forgiving and a bit less experienced. 3.0 players are in 2 extreme camps, either they're loving the game or they're hating it (potentially holding out to see if anything changes).
That's just what I've noticed, though, not necessarily a good reflection of those sets of people so take it with a grain of salt.
To be honest it has taken me a very long time to notice all the predictable patterns (3 bosses every dungeon, 4 bosses every raid, predictable 24 man and primal fights at specific times, the constant vertical gear). Maybe I'm a little slow lol but maybe se has actually disguised their patterns pretty well. Regardless tho, now that I have recognized it, it's very difficult to ignore. Previously when ppl would complain that "raid gear means nothing bc it will be outdated so quickly" I always thought they were being dramatic, who cares if the casuals catch up? I don't. But the quick patch cycles just cheapen the game so much. I guess ppl like to quote yoshi p here and say how he doesn't think that ppl should ever leave the game and fall too far behind and I do think that is a good point but there must be a happy medium for the ppl that actually ARE here playing the game that now feel like all their efforts have gone to waste for nothing bc of this too fast content cycle. (Small FYI here: I think there should be more content within the game but it should build on previous content so that i95 t5 weapon was actually the one you brought to second coil. Every raid should use the gear from the previous tiers raid until the next expansion. And in a perfect world there would also be many more raid bosses than what we have building in difficulty to max, that way ppl don't have to beat their heads on one boss for months, I mean rly no wonder ppl quit raiding.)
Anyways what I'm trying to say is I think it would be rly interesting to see time played vs satisfaction level and I just want to say great thread idea!
1. Yes but with concern for the future and hope for innovation.
