Because the people who post on the forum arent actually equally players and customers? i really dont understand this lol. How is the forum community different from the player base when to login and post in here you must have a square enix valid and active account?Yes.
Since FFXIV ARR Beta phase 3, with a 6 month period when I was still subbed, but could only play very limited times.
No, but I have played others before, I did not come here from another game that I was playing when this started.
Remember that any conclusions you draw from this survey are not representative of the player base of the game, they represent the community on the forum, the two are not the same thing.
The forum is not representative because it's not a random sampling of the playerbase. It's a subset of the playerbase that is interested in posting on the official forums. This adds bias to the sample, and is thus not representative of the whole.
Pretty much this.
I may build a survey site in the future that automatically compiles the data from these to build charts from, and is independent of the forums, but even then, there would be bias.

I had a thought a while back ago but dropped it. If you make a survey monkey or something, you can hang out in PF for that, you'll also need some people on different servers advertising it as well to get a general consensus.

They are more representative than people think. If you dont come here to ask for a change, for feedback or anything else, then you are part of the same problem you are complaining about. Im just saying dont take people that post on this forum like serie B players, because actually they come here with the hope SE will read what they write. And there are a lot of very old players that couldnt really care to post and write on a forum like myself, unless the situation is quite bad.
besides saying "the forum is not representative of the WHOLE player base" is quite reduntant, you will never be able to have a 100% representative of the whole playerbase ever on a forum or in game. That being said the post from Kosmos992k seemed the usual attempt to discriminate whoever express any opinion against the current game status.
Unless 100% of people playing the game come to the forum and register and reply to this thread, there is no possible way the data will be completelt accurate. It is the responsibility of the surveyor to account for those discrepancies when interpreting the data. The forums represent a very small subset of the community, and I know for a fact that there is a large disparity between forummites and people in game. The people I've interacted with in game are generally enjoying it.They are more representative than people think. But regardless of the quality of the sample, it is still something. As I edited into the post, I'm going to be compiling results now, and then again in a month, in order to study trends.

I feel that you may not have a very firm grasp on statistics, or polling for that matter. Very few if any stats and polls actually are from 100% census data. Most are taking from random sampling and extrapolated. Based on how you build your methodology, you can be certain that your information is close to accurate (with standard deviations and errors of measurement).
Your first paragraph actually exemplifies why the forums are not representative of the population as a whole. People come to the forums mostly to ask for change and/or provide feedback. There are some who simply go on here, because they are obsessed with the game and when they can't play the forum (me :P). However, it's not a random sample, and any collection data gathered here cannot be used to provide any sort of actual usable data and is really 'just for fun'. Further, due to the nature of it, it can't really even be used to represent the forum as a whole, as it's having a bias subset of that sample (by having to opt in and read this post). They are more representative than people think. If you dont come here to ask for a change, for feedback or anything else, then you are part of the same problem you are complaining about. Saying that the forums is not representative of the population in no way suggests that people on the forums opinions do not matter, or that they are lesser players.
I honestly don't know what you're talking about here.
I'd recommend you re-read Kosmos post. (S)he said nothing of the sort.

Hmmmmmm. So, you're implying that the only Truly Representative Response on this forum is one of gloom, disaster and despair, and that anyone who dares to say "things aren't that bad" is discriminating against you?besides saying "the forum is not representative of the WHOLE player base" is quite reduntant, you will never be able to have a 100% representative of the whole playerbase ever on a forum or in game. You also appear to have a personal conflict with this Kosmos992k. What's with that?
Are you a Black Knight, deliberately sabotaging our comfortable view of the game in order to, um, force us all to go play something else?
See how stupid arguments get when you inject spurious levels of animosity into the argument? Cut it out.

1. In the middle, concerned about its future.
2. Almost 2 years.
3. GW2. It was like a M&M without the chocolate inside.
Ever take an Internet Poll before?
The results are skewed because the respondents are not chosen from a random sampling of the base population.
From hit #3 using the search term "internet poll self sampling": "A self-selected sample that is not randomly selected from a population has no specification of sampling error" -- http://cstl-cla.semo.edu/rdrenka/Renka_papers/polls.htm
Also, the questions in the poll can provide bias toward certain answers.
