I suspect as we move forward we'll see more experimental content. ARR was all about establishing the baseline for the game, the stable of content that we'll have the whole way through. Now they're starting to experiment a bit more with Diadem (which has a lot of kinks that need to be worked out, of course). With the stable in place, and presumably the staff+assembly line to keep those things coming, they'll probably try mixing up the formula from time to time. If nothing else, I really hope they do.

FFXI didn't start with a lot of the interesting content that that people remember fondly, and given this game's different sort of market, as well as the fact that they had to get their footing first, I'm not particularly surprised we haven't seen a lot of experimentation yet.

As for running the same content over and over, I deliberately don't structure my play times that way--if I approach burnout on something, I tend to focus on something else for awhile. I especially enjoy the weapon-quest stages that let us progress through a variety of content (like Nexus and the current Anima 210 stage) but tend to dislike the ones that are entirely one type of content (unless that content is dungeons, I love 4-mans in this game).

If they didn't give us new dungeons every few months (with the exception of the recent delay for 3.1), I'd probably get burnt out on dungeons, too, though, and I wish they'd rethink only adding two dungeons per patch--but, if it means they have resources to try new experimental/variety content over time, it'll be an even trade. It just doesn't feel that way yet since Diadem is kind of a mess.
