Ps4 HW installation question

So I've been playing FFXIV on PS3 but I recently purchased a PS4 (Happy Starlight to me!) All my previous purchases (ARR and Heavensward) have been digital versions but for PS4 I'll be using a digital copy of ARR and a physical copy for Heavensward. Will I always have to use my Heavensward disc after install, or will it just be needed for setup? I'm sure this has been asked before but I wasn't sure where in the forums to search and all I was finding on Google were pre Heavensward launch threads.

Yes if you have the physical version you will need to have it in to play.

I have the physical HW for PS4, no you do NOT need the disc in every time you play, the disc simply installs to your harddrive and you launch it like always, no disc required. I've not taken my HW disc out of the CE box since day 1 and I play every day

This is correct. I had the physical version of ARR on PS3, and this was exactly how it worked. After installation, it treats the game more or less as a downloaded title. You could quite literally throw the disc away after it was successfully installed.

I believe the work around found is to uninstall the hardware install version and download the (now unlocked after 1st install) digital version off PSN, which will bypass the disc check.

There was no work around needed, it literally installed the game to your console harddrive when you put the disc in, once it finished it's install, you could take it out and never look at it again

Just wanted to update this post after setup. I never had to put the HW disc into my PS4 console. All I had to do was redeem my code through PSN and then log into FFXIV and it automatically downloaded and installed the expansion. So far I've been able to play disc free, but I haven't actually made it into Ishgard yet. I also feel it's important to note that all my previous purchases were digital versions and I also played beta and had early access to HW on PS3.
