RMT and Banning Buyers

It's the first time I read about buyers getting banned. It's usually RMT advertisers/bots since people can't really varify that. They just tell us and "we" believe.

How long did buyers get banned for and when exactly did this happen?

They've been giving temp-bans to buyers for as long as they've been posting about their ban waves. It's usually no more than a few dozen people per month that are caught. I have no idea how long the temp-bans are for, though. SE doesn't talk opening about specific punishments in general, and I highly doubt anyone here knows the 7 people who were temp-banned this month in order to ask them.

The numbers they post are for a week not a month. This recent topic was for Dec 10-16. The 7 people this time can be for any illicit reason though, not just RMT.

Exactly. Hence my sceptical thoughts about SE banning buyers. They do not want to risk losing $15 a month. Bots is another story since people will ask questions when X bot remains in the game for several weeks (which already is the case). As far as buyers go, no one knows and I doubt SE does anything since it can not be traced by the community anyway.

here's the problem (and it's the same in crime too): People never think they're going to get caught. They don't factor getting caught into their decision making.

So, going Judge Dredd on them won't really help. On the other hand, if you temp ban first and remove their ill gotten gains... that corrects the perception that one won't get caught. Now they will think about getting caught, and they're much, much less likely to do anything that will get them in trouble.

I know of someone on my server who bought gil once from an off-game website when he returned to the game after a year + of being unsubbed. He didn’t actually know that buying gil was against the rules until he was told by a few people but when he found out, he panicked and gave it away to new players who were struggling (We’ve all been there…), his FC and other people that needed it. Makes me wonder what happened to him, come to think of it.
