My 'defense' is that I'm actually enjoying it. I understand that plenty of people aren't but I am. I respect the opinions of those who are unhappy with the situation even if I don't agree with everything they say. Please return the courtesy.

Whilst it's great that you're enjoying yourself, your join date implies you haven't been playing all that long.
Those of us that have been here since launch have been doing this for over two years already. The expansion added nothing truly new, just more of the same. The relic is quite literally just a copy and paste job of the 2.X relic before they nerfed it. The devs are just recycling content and on top of that the patches are being delayed whilst becoming smaller and lower quality.
It's fine for you because you're new and you can't see the cracks yet. Those of us that have been here since the beginning can see how incredibly lazy the devs are being and we're tired of it. They are NOT putting our subscriptions to good use.
Grind is NOT content. New content would be new places to go, new enemies to kill, etc. This relic quest is having us redo OLD content hundreds of times. It's added nothing new, nothing to do; it's simply a carrot to keep us playing. Please don't confuse the two.People say it's something to do because others are whining that there's no content left for them. These relics are implemented, literally, to give us something to do while the new content isn't flowing.
People are crying that they don't have any content to do but then cry when they give us something time consuming to work on. The relic isn't even difficult. In short, if people's argument is the "lack of content", they're going to get the response that actually, there is content, you just don't want to do it.
As another player said, if you don't like it, that's fine. You don't have to do it. But respect other people's opinions who do like it and stop jumping down their throat. Some people enjoy it and they have every right to.
Most aren't even complaining about the grind anyway. The fact is, given the time the third stage of the relic will take to complete, most won't finish it before 3.2 renders the reward obsolete. What's the point in a grind with no reward?

I still love how both sides think the forums is a large chunk of the community. Like the Relic or Don't like it stop with this high level of exaggeration on all sides.
A few of you are about to get into the level of insulting each other that gets you banned. Then you'll have someone post how you got banned for no reason.
Just a warning

I really think we should remove "content" that several people find a chore and not fun...
In one week, you could shut the game because EVERY content would be removed...
Would it make you feel better ?
We relic-grinders like it. You don't. Deal with it.

No, there isn't any new content. I did all this stuff required by the relic weeks or months ago. I even did some of the dungeons over a year ago. I've done thousands of fates and cleared each of the required dungeons dozens of times. I've done beast tribe quests, I've done Alexander, I've done crafting. There is absolutely nothing new offered in the 3.15 relic quest.People are crying that they don't have any content to do but then cry when they give us something time consuming to work on. I didn't use the word "new". The point is, it's still something to do whether it's old content or not. It's not non-existent therefore it's "something to do."No, there isn't any new content. Again to the other posters, nobody is even saying it's shiny and new. I'm not doing the content right now because of PS4 issues. Otherwise I would be enjoying it. Just leave us be and get off our backs because we don't agree with you.
Argument as to why I enjoy it? I like grinding. I can revisit Alexander with my friends. It gives me a reason to spend my laws. It gives me a goal to work towards. Are you happy now? Or is that not a good enough reason for you?

Actually, I've been playing for almost two years and I have no issues with the new relic. Again, if you don't like it, that's fine. But please just let people enjoy it without making excuses up for why they are. There's no need to push your opinion on others.Whilst it's great that you're enjoying yourself, your join date implies you haven't been playing all that long.

Also, anything in the game is content. Just because it's revisiting old content and isn't shiny and new doesn't mean you can't do it. For the millionth time, it's optional, there's other weapons, and a whole lot of other stuff to do in the game.

It seems odd that criticism and the want for engaging new content is seen as some sort of grand offense to people.
If you love something you should be able to criticize it and look at it objectively.
2.0 relics started off with hunting monsters, melding materia to a weapon, going through trials, doing a dungeon, hunting more monsters, fighting three primals, and then doing a tomestone grind. It was a lot, but it was a variety linked together through a questline that made it feel like a journey to gain a weapon of power. It was also pretty much your stepping stone weapon. It gave a feeling of accomplishment.
3.0 anima is starting off with atma grind/dungeon runs. Atma is somewhat bearable since you can level alts with it and at least you can unsync run the dungeons, but there's nothing engaging. Then it's the turn in grind which, while many options are given, doesn't feel as cohesive as the 2.0 relic line did. It's just throwing you into content that you've either never touched because you didn't care or content you've ran into the ground during the content drought. Then you get a weapon that currently might be worse than your esoterics weapon.
Sure it'll get better, the 2.0 relics proved that, but with the first step of anima being all the worst parts of the 3.0 relic condensed what will the next steps bring?
And in the end, Anima isn't the main problem, it's how 3.0 and it's subsequent patches have been delivered. Anima was simply the match that lit the fuse on people's bottled up disappointment.
If you enjoy the grind more power to you, but I think there is a point where some criticism must be recognized as holding some validity.

It's a valid defense because there's a lot of fanboys/fangirls in this game and they will support the game just for being a Final Fanasy game even when it's broken. I've read alot of comments from fanboys/girls saying this game is awesome, grind is awesome EVERY single thing in this game it's pretty cool for them.
Those fans are always online chating and doing nothing, now with this relic thing they just have "something to do" but that's not the point. This game is an MMO and we should be able to have fun with the game (which does not happen)
Now..
The game is nice as RPG and I really enjoy the story
But...
As an MMO is crappy to be honest, lazy, repetitive and no sense
