When i tried on Yosemite, it does exactly what you guys are describing, launches and remains resident but does not do anything, no launcher, no game, no luck... You can use Activity Monitor in your Utilities folder to see FFXIV running and doing nothing. You can also Force Quit it there, without having to restart your computer.

    UPDATE!

Go to System Preferences > Security and Privacy > General tab...

    Allow apps downloaded from:

    CHANGE TO: Anywhere

    Save and close System Preferences.

Kill FFXIV if its currently trying to run...

Launch it again, it should now work.

Seems like they didn't get their certificates right on the App. So Gatekeeper is blocking it. Good Luck!
I wish I had seen this earlier! I ended up updating to El Capitan. The game runs but now this happened!

    Link

Random artifacts appeared on screen and my game froze up as I zoned into Revenant's Toll! I couldn't do anything but move my mouse around. Couldn't even exit to the desktop. I'm going to continue playing and if this reaccures then I'll update. I'm mildly annoyed now.

It happened again. In Revenant's Toll also. I was completing an objective in one of the level 54 quests on my AST. Same kind of artifacts.

Thanks sarahnight, that worked for me as well. I haven't tried playing the game yet though as I'm busy. Hopefully the freezing and such that's being reported doesn't happen after it's been running near perfect for me for me since the release.

Artifacts do seem to be a curse that follows us randomly... I played for 3 hours last night on Mac OS X without ever having any like you experienced. It does lag occasionally but not continuously, and if anything 2560 x 1440 on my 27 inch iMac the performance generally feels improved. I did 4 guildhests, and a dungeon all without any issues.

I have NVidia in my Mac... i used to get artifacts, its probably to early to say i won't anymore... Which video card do you have?

Why are you still on Yosemite? It's free to upgrade the Mac OS.

    Greetings,

Apologies for those of you running into the issue reinstalling the FFXIV Mac client, but there is a known issue with Gatekeeper in previous versions on Mac OS X and it is not related to our software or license. While making temporary adjustments to the security permission levels will allow installation, it is not something that we would recommend doing as it creates a higher security risk. As we mentioned on the new client download page, we recommend that you update to El Capitan, the latest Mac OS, in order to rectify the problem.

We’ve also added this information to our FAQ as well.

Thank you for the classification clarification, Grekumah! I am, however, experiencing a totally different issue after updating to El Capitan that I described in a second thread (found here: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/f...threads/275697). I have since gone and some a completely fresh install (removed all FFXIV related files on my computer.) I will update the thread after this to see if there are any other changes, but I thought I should bring attention to that thread as well.
