Are you seriously saying that random dungeon drops ala the Zodiak step are a better option than what we got?

Are you seriously saying that random dungeon drops ala the Zodiak step are a better option than what we got?
They never said that. They said that the grind needed to reflect the difficulty of getting an i210 weapon elsewhere, never that it was meant to be equally as difficult and anyone with a working brain knows it's not equal.
The relic is significantly easier to get than a raiding equivalent. Their point was that they obviously couldn't give you the relic with a few days of casual work. If their goal was to make it the same as raiding, we would literally be working for months even with 4-5 hours of work a day.

Not at all, that was simply to compensate for the fact that my version splits the quest in half over two patches. It also has a reasonable drop rate, and is in levelling dungeons, so can be used to level. It makes the relic harder yes, but we get the content over the course of the full gear cycle.

If you look 2.x pattern, relic was never bis before second raid pattern. In 2.2 there was atma and animus which ilvl was 100 that surpassed t5 weapon, but you get ilvl 100 from leviathan as well so you was never forced to farm relic for raid progression. bis weapon was ilvl 115 during that time. In patch(3 month later) 2.28 they released novus relic weapon that was ilvl 110 weapon. Even that weapon do not surpassed t9 weapon and was still not bis. 3 month later they released patch 2.38 that finally make relic as bis weapon ilvl 115 same than endgame raiding weapon. Now between 2.38 - 2.4 relic is bis until new content appear so around 5 - 6 weeks. That is the time relic is supposed to be bis weapon before new content appear. Difference between this and 2.x was that they wanted give us bis relic in first raid season in this expansion. Savage content was there already that long for the reason se had vacation because of released expansion. Content patches are supposed to be every 3 month normaly. This is true, however they said that the reason that relic is so grindy is that they compared the effort to get it to the effort of getting a gordian weapon, thus making the anima supposedly as difficult a weapon to get as gordian. The difference is that the gordian weapon has been available for 7 months already, with the i200 esoteric weapons having been available and widely obtained for about 6 months. Square have given us barely 2 months to obtain, let alone enjoy the anima weapon, which is the primary concern of this thread.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you want you can check dates from patch notes yourself.

This is a really good summary of the old relic, and is enlightening, but I really have to wonder which part contradicts my point. Sure, maybe I should go and change my relic alternative idea from 3.05 and 3.1 to 3.08 and 3.15, but that's beside the point. This relic differs because they put it all in one go to get ~BiS, which is exactly what you said, and is exactly the problem. This created a drought in relic content, and then suddenly and overwhelming quest at the end of the patch cycle that takes you from 0-210 in one go. With staggered content there is investment to continue, with this, not so much

Because this relic work exactly like old relic only zenith part removed. Atma and animus announced too in one go just like this relic fate and tome/what ever you want grind. There is not really anything new in this relic quest except you have more choices if you wanna level up your alts with relic quest and multiple more options do that third part than that old animus part. If you would do old relic, you would know this is way more easier than old one back in days.

I think it's good. From someone who has no raid group, 210 Anima is my best bet. The options are:.....ok? After seeing the relic quest, thats what I will be doing, thanks for suggesting that :P But on a serious note, im not bashing the questline, there are plenty of other threads you can hate on if thats your angle. I'm stating that at this current time, the reward for the grind is by far not good enough for the time invested, and that this is because of the timing of the content.
- iLv210 Alexander Savage weapon from A4.
- iLv210 Eso weapon, which requires Page 4 from Alexander Savage.
- iLv205 Thordan Ex weapon, but of course, since it's only 205 and not 210, you won't be happy.
- iLv200 Eso or Stage 1 Anima (the glowy weapon).
That said, I won't be able to obtain the A4S weapon or the upgraded Eso weapon no time soon (if ever). So Anima is my goal and my friend. The timing is right for non-raiders. Remember, Yoshi stated that this quest is primarily for us who can't raid.
The amount of time to get an Anima 210 is probably the same amount of time it'll take a person to get an Alexander 210 weapon.

The majority of the players that are hardcore players will have obtained their 205 / 210 weapon from the harder content, however not everyone is a hardcore player. There are still a fair amount of players in this game who are level 60 yet have still to clear Bismarck ex to even obtain the 205 weapon.
Also with regards to the length of time required to obtain the new relic there is already someone that has obtained the relic within 3 days of its release due to playing the game almost 24/7.

I love the new look for the ninja's daggers. I'm a little disappointed that it has skill speed instead of crit. I can only assume that we'll get another materia enhancement with a form of alexandrite step later on.

They've pretty much said Gobdip is going into Void Ark at some point. So you're likely to get it then.
And as a non-raider, the timing was right when Alex Savage released, or shortly after. Have to wait this long, and seeing the requirements, it's not worth it. And yet I've been starving for something of worth to do since effectively Alex normal, since my schedules don't line up well with normal play times. Even if I wanted to do the third step, I effectively would have to drive myself past broke and have no time to recoup costs, even if stat wise I could craft everything myself.
