    Even in F2P game you will get "better" weapons in shorter time, NO one will pay 6 months just to have "access" to relics.
    We are playing in a P2P game and expect at least that developers are developing a game and not just money grind from their playerbase.

Also, by that point, we will have gotten Gobdip through VA most likely which will allow you to upgrade your weapon to 210. is basically an alternative to the very hard to get 210 weapon that is easily obtainable and doesnt require time investment.

    Just accept the fact that this is another way of obtaining a 210 weapon, a more casual way (since you can complete it at your own pace) and if you dont raid and dont want to do the relic well tough poo, you'll have to wait for Gobdip or the next patch.
    There is no confirmation on whether the gobdip will even be tricked down to the casual raid from A4S. Yoship only mentioned on that subject they would monitor the Thordan EX clear rates, and that trial is designed with the i205 weapons in-mind to help raiders with A3S/A4S clears.

    The relic weapon is entirely optional though. Focus on the content that you find fun and ignore the stuff that you don't. If the game as a whole ceases to grip you then what's the point in forcing yourself to get a relic weapon in the first place? It won't be going anywhere...and in due time it'll be made slightly easier to acquire.

    The first relic quest is the best. You que up for trials and beat them. The relic is the reward that you earn from defeating endgame content.

I merely challenged the typically weak white-knight defence of SE's bad design decisions you came out with ("if you don't like it simply get an easily obtainable weapon blah blah"). Now you wanna expand your statement to say how people should wait until 3.2 or Gobdips instead... except that's not what you said from the start.

    Fact is, this content is yet again an uninspired, recycled endeavour by SE, fully worthy of the criticism it's getting. Even hilarious is how they felt it was worth delaying the relic by up to 7 months for, instead of smartly staggering the time and grind investment from launch to now.

    Playing is optional, so we should search for an other game where we have more fun?

    Edit:
    FFXIV -> RNG everywhere
    FFXIV -> grinding EVERYWHERE
    FUN -> sorry, behind a gate

    I hate this arguement. Every major piece of content that comes out that adds to progression has an impact on player mentality and meta. Honestly, you are right, relic is optional, I'm not going to do it and good on you if you do. What I worry about is the health of the game. Now before you say that an optional piece of content doesnt matter to the health of the game, the RELIC quest does. This patch was highly anticipated for around 7 months since the expansion launched, delayed again and again, and to a lot of people, it hasn't delivered, and on top of that, it leaves a progression line so messy that even players who can get through the grind wont be able to enjoy their relic because it will be outdated already. Personally I would have made this relic step a lot easier and saved this exact relic step for 3.2.

    My comment wasn't directed at you, sorry for the confusion. I agree with your view that they released this too late given what's expected of the playerbase to complete it.

    I usually defend alot of choices SE makes with games, and to be honest I have yet to look at the quest itself in the game. That being said, if what I'm reading turns out to be true then this would seem to be a big design oversight. It undermines the entire selling point of the game, which has always been that you can be everything and anything. Switching jobs is as simple as switching weapons. It's a major driving point of the game.

    Not only will it be a soul crushing grind for some that will undermine scheduled raids and other events for those of us that cant play more than 1-2 hours a day, but it will also absolutely force you to select only one relic to do. I main 2 jobs, and I play them both very regularly, this is gonna force me to out gear one job and spend waaaay more time on it.

    The bottom line is that it won't force people to quit, but it's very confusing when so much of the game is geared toward the casual crowd that they would make the traditionally casual weapon set so outright time intensive.
