The REAL reason that Anima sucks

Ok, so I know this isn't the only reason, but it's the reason that people are missing with the new relic quest.

As we all (hopefully) know by now is that Anima is the biggest grind that we have in the relic chain, essentially taking the Atma step, a boatload of dungeons, and the Zodiac step on crack, and smashing them into one long relic quest, which understandably has overwhelmed a lot of people, but I think if you to imagine if this had come out in 3.05 rather than 3.15, it starts to become a little more bearable.

I feel that it was a HUGE mistake delaying relic this long, and honestly, with the recycled content, I cannot see why it was delayed. the 3.0 gear cycle has been going for 6-7 months now, thats a huge stretch of time for a gear cycle and in that time a lot of people have already gotten their gordian weapons, their upgraded eso weapons, and to a lesser extent, their thordan weapons. What this has done is it has devalued the relic significantly because plenty of people ALREADY had a better weapon weeks or months ago, and honestly its too late.

I hope someone can enlighten me as to why the playerbase should suffer through the grindfest (not even that, its also a huge tome/gil/token sink) when 3.2 and the new gear cycle is just around the corner, and the time when i210 was a distant goal to shoot for was several months ago.

Edit: clarification on some things - relic is poorly timed, not necessarily a failure from its core, I don't care about the grind, I just think that structure of releasing gear and the difficulty in getting it is random and is very destructive to the playerbase (i210 gear is easy to get now, oh... wait what?). This could have been avoided by having an easier relic now, and the 3.2 relic be this exact step, with a tonne of time to enjoy it.

Because you'll need this weapon to do the next step of the quests when they're released.

No one is forcing you to "suffer" through it (as you put it). If you don't wanna do it, don't do it. Simply grab any other more easily obtainable alternate weapons and be on your merry way.

This is true, but I feel the timing puts a lot of people on the back foot. Unless we are waiting another 5 months from 3.1 - 3.2, I feel like we only have a month and a half (maybe 2) to finish this grind, meaning that the chances are that the majority of people will be doing this weapon well into the next gear cycle, and I understand where you are coming from, eventually it will be BiS and the relic that we want it to be, just like when we got the novus step, BUT, from a psychological perspective, people traded away their Zetas to get a grind laid out in front of them for a weapon that is potentially worse than one that they quite likely have, which I feel was very poor planning.

.....ok? After seeing the relic quest, thats what I will be doing, thanks for suggesting that :P But on a serious note, im not bashing the questline, there are plenty of other threads you can hate on if thats your angle. I'm stating that at this current time, the reward for the grind is by far not good enough for the time invested, and that this is because of the timing of the content.

Think about it this way, we are getting relic, the most time consuming and biggest currency sink in the game during catchup patch when they are throwing i210 gear at players left right and center, I'm sorry for wondering where the motivation is

Theres no other "easily obtainable" i210 weapons to get, what are you talking about? The two alternative ways to get i210 weapons both involve clearing the hardest content in the game at current.

This statement right there is ridiculous. The grind for the relic is long for a reason. By the time everyone is done with it, as OP said, new content with new weapons, more powerful weapons, will have come out. Also, by that point, we will have gotten Gobdip through VA most likely which will allow you to upgrade your weapon to 210.

Sure right now you can't get a 210 weapon easily, you can however get a 205 much more easily than the relic. What people like you are asking is basically an alternative to the very hard to get 210 weapon that is easily obtainable and doesnt require time investment.

Just accept the fact that this is another way of obtaining a 210 weapon, a more casual way (since you can complete it at your own pace) and if you dont raid and dont want to do the relic well tough poo, you'll have to wait for Gobdip or the next patch.

    1. All the hard works just for i210, which will be too weak when we actually get it in May or June 2016.
    2. Ugly as hell and no glowing effect.
    3. Messed up secondary stats for many jobs. Making most of them inferior to i205 Thordan weapons.

I didn't say that they were easily obtainable, I said that the players have had over half a year to work towards them, which is a significant enough amount of time to devalue the relic

However, the motivation is towards the weapons, that is the single most important piece of gear you get, yes they can throw ilvl210 at you from every which way, but the weapon needs to be hard to get affter some fashion.

I however don't mind the grind. I accept the fact that I do not have static nor am able to make time for one and I will grind this relic to get the weapon however long it may be. They are simply providing another way to get weapons, more options for players to get a weapon outside of the primals or the raids. You don't have to do it, more option is always good. Also, I dont feel like the relic is meant to be this ultimate weapon (although I agree its been worded like that through the quests) I feel its just, as I have said above, yet another way to get gear if you want to follow that path. Would have I liked new and interesting things to do rather than 2.0 with a new coat of paint? Absolutely. But as a piece of content, for the reward it provides to casual players, its perfectly fine to me.

    1. Depending on a bunch of factor, you can do it faster than that I'm sure. Also they will probably nerf some of it at some point along the way.
    2. Entierely a matter of taste. The first part of the old relic didnt glow either by the way.
    3. For Min maxers, relic grind is made for casuals. Also, as someone pointed out in another thread, this was made to make other weapons not irrelevant so if you crave those stats, you still need to get the other weapons.
