Its all optional though, and plus if everyone wants to just wait around with only FFXIV to play then yeah everyone is going to get really tired of the lack of content. That's exactly what those people do not understand. It's not about the grind, but about the fact that there is _nothing_ besides the grind. Not even an entry trial like the Chimera for the 1. Relic. I don't understand how anyone in their right mind could possibly defend this.
You cant say people will get tired with lack of content. Its the same argument as with capping Eso tomes.
You could run the relic or run tomes for multiple other jobs. There is enough content in this game to keep you occupied easily through patch cycles without gating content.
Even with the current caps its still difficult to do everything I need to do during the week and I play a LOT.
Many players are discouraged in levelling multiple jobs because of locked content... in a game that encourages multiple jobs.
We have a massive shortage of tanks and healers because of this.

Which will happen now anyway since the relic's not going to be considered by many people due to the last step requiring a tedious amount of grinding or an easier albeit slower daily setup.
But sure, let's keep defending this grindy, daily mess with lack of true social bonding or displays of skill. Code's already been there, models could've been used differently. Guess the mess that was Diadem, red scrips, Alexander tokens, hunts weren't enough yet. Really, keep'm comin', keep defendin', see where it brings ya.
Let me rephrase your sentence: In order to have fun with FFXIV, you shouldn't play it.
The whole game is optional. You don't have to play it at all. But we chose to. And we pay money for it. We pay the money for actual content instead of a relic grind that was thrown together in 10 minutes by an applicant. This expansion is over half an year old. And what has it to show for it? Content worth 2 weeks of playing at max level. And now they decide to bring on an "epic relic quest", that's little more than a selling point for bots.
The game has a lot of good things going for it. For one, most armour looks amazing. It's not simply a body point like in most MMOs. And it's not just there to show bare skin, but actually protecting your vital spots. I love that. I also love the character and world design. But there's just as much frustrating and ridiculous stuff going on. Lack of content might be the biggest issue. But it sure as hell is not the only one.

Adormus
I'm not going to say you aren't right, but this is one piece of content that is for those who want it, if all I played for was the content I would of quit along time ago, sometimes that's what people want, but I get more enjoyment from the people then content.
Its just that people complain about 1 aspect of the game, and in in the long term is a glamor item, the eso and Gordian weapons are great and are more than enough to complete anything out right now, Its just that everyone moans and groans about something that is optional, no one is forcing them to do it, if they want it, they want it, if not then go enjoy the other things in the game.
Sometimes I wonder if some people on FFXIV forums aren't SE bots accounts, made to defend content implementation. That's exactly what those people do not understand. It's not about the grind, but about the fact that there is _nothing_ besides the grind. Not even an entry trial like the Chimera for the 1. Relic. I don't understand how anyone in their right mind could possibly defend this.
THIS is what I'm trying to say. I wouldn't have minded if the methods to obtain things had better things to DO to get them instead of mindless grinding. Heck, even tossing in Binding Coil runs would be fun for the level 60-ers. Idk, it's just ridiculous that it's just a grind with nothing else like lore or accomplishments or trials behind them that add some spice to it.
I'll be interested to see how much of a time investment it really is, sure it sounds like a lot. but alex normal takes like 5 min to complete and beast tribe quests even less. This seems like something that could be done just plugging an hour or so each day into it between now and 3.2. I'll withhold judgement for now until i get to that part of the quest.

Yes that was one of the biggest obstacles but with anything its eventually going to get bogged down, I think at this point that everyone assumes that since they did the grind to get a zeta, that they shouldn't have to do it again, adding a grind is about time, and plus everyone who complains forgets the fact that they don't even have to do it, there is plenty of gear out there that with skills is just as good.
