Yeah, I'm done with garbage. Just spent two hours for one Dawnborne Aethersand. I need 15 more of these, do Diadem... ballpark three times minimum for materials, coordinate with a minimum of two (read: five) people capable of HQ'ing reliably, and juggle every single piece of content I have already done from 2.1 onward for a single piece of equipment. Back to crafting and planning for housing when the 45 days are up. At least that is a sane objective.
I hear ya Khan. The relic third stage is garbage.
To the people defending the relic: yeah, you're allowed to enjoy it. That's not a problem. Different strokes and all that. However, it's very clear that a lot of people DON'T like it. Sure, you can say, "if you don't like it, don't do it," but the issue here is that the relic is really just the tipping point in a string of poor decisions by SE since 3.0. People are unsubbing at this point. There's enough people unsubbing to where it will hurt SE. This may be anecdotal evidence, but I'm seeing a number of people in game leave, as well as the numerous people on forums doing the same. Those who aren't leaving are left questioning the direction SE is taking. It's at a point where you can't just ignore it. If it's upsetting that many people, maybe SE is doing something wrong. Regardless of whether or not you enjoy it, there's a large portion of people who did like this game and now they don't. I've been playing since PS3 release and I love this game to bits, but even I'm disappointed with the direction things are going. Everything that SE has tried doing in 3.0 has been implemented very poorly (like Diadem), with some decisions being outright confusing (like having to queue for Verminion in the Gold Saucer).
"Well I like it so shut up" isn't any more valid than "well I hate it and you should too." But both of those are pointless. Enough people are pissed about the game choices when they previously weren't to warrant a legitimate discussion on the quality of the direction the game is taking. The way this conversation is currently going isn't constructive and is quite pointless.
Personally, I'll probably end out doing the anima weapon casually, but I don't like it. They had so much potential to do more with it, especially after they said they wouldn't do what they did in 2.X with it, and they delayed it for so long just for it to be... this. I'm not going to unsub either, but I'm continually questioning their choices when there are better options. If it keeps up, who knows, I might just unsub. This is coming from someone who legitimately enjoys the game and cares about it.
I feel like SE is not listening to the customers. Atma (fate grinding) back in 2.x was not fun and there were so many players that absolutely went bonkers over the atma grind. The drop rate is now pretty high from when it was 1st implemented and its still unbearable. Now we are in 3.0 and I was thinking maybe just maybe they wont do something stupid this time around and well they did. Not only did they add fates into the equation they also boosted the number to 18 crystals.... ????????? The players said we don't like fate grinds in our relic quests but what SE heard "WE LOVE FATE GRINDS PLEASE GIVE ME MORE SO I CAN NOCK MY SELF OUT WHILE BANGING MY HEAD ON THE DESK"..... Seriously 6 hours, 6 HORRIBLE MIND NUMBING HOURS, in the Churning Mist and all I got was 2 crystals . So far out of 15 total hours of farming fates all I got was 5 crystals. I still have 13 crystals to go and at this rate it will be close to 60 or more hours of fate grinding before I get all 18 crystals.... ALL this grind is for an i170 weapon.... are you serious? How is this fun? Why do I have to spend 60 plus hours in fate grinding for a freaken down grade
SE this was the straw that broke the camels back... after what I have seen in Heavenward so far only shows that you are no longer concerned about what your customers want. There are so many different and better ways to handle the new relic quest line and all we got was rehashed crappy content. Unfortunately, I already paid for the month of December but Im really considering on dropping sub for a while or for good. I don't like the direction that this game is going. It's pathetic.... I expect crap like this from F2P game but from a AAA MMO? I don't think so... Something is very wrong... and its about time to jump ship before it sinks. At this rate FFXIV may go F2P before it finally sinks to the bottom.
Edit:
All I am saying is FFXIV is becoming dull and old. Heavensward was suppose to reach heavensward. Instead Heavensward started off in that direction but somewhere along the way the Allegan airship broke down and fell Hellsward.![]()

Imho there is nothing wrong with a FATE grind per se.
What is wrong is that the DEVs are unwilling to program in a safety net.
Since it is the first step of the weapon and not supposed to be soul crushingly hard do the following:
After every successfully completed FATE with GOLD RATING! (no tagging 3 mobs and running away) increase crystal drop chance by 10 percent POINTS (not %).
Resulting worst case scenario: guaranteed crystal drop after 10 FATEs putting the player at 180 FATES (gold rated) maximum.
There you go: I just designed a FATE grind w/o any kind of frustration.
I seriously don't get why game devs INSIST on "unshielded" RNG so much. Sure, it's piss easy to code, but the results are NOT FUN for any player caught on the unlucky side. Shouldn't games we play in our limited free time be exactly that? FUN?
Think long and hard about this SE.
To begin with: no, we really do not. We are not developers, it is not our job, we are not getting paid for it - heck, can't even be said that we do what we do because we enjoy doing it, like I'm sure many devs like what they do.
Furthermore... yeah, maybe there is a reason why old content was dead? You know, because of people having been bored to death with it all for months. Doing the "daily routine" only, putting in the minimal effort to get the minimal allowed progress in the few things they can, because they are bored to death even with that. Sure, by forcing everyone to do those same things they have been sick and tired of for months, you can re-populate older content. But then cue the hatred, the flames, the quitting, the no recommending the game to outsiders - do the math if it's worth it. From a dev's point, or from ours. (Point in fact, it could be felt for a while that the game isn't getting the money it needs, let the subs start dropping and it'll go down the drain in its entirety. If it hasn't yet.)
Consider this then: had they added actual new content with Anima Weapon, the massive delay would have been justified at least. Like it or not, this thing has been delayed "because it wasn't ready". And then it drops, and it's a great big air balloon, like what wasn't ready in this? For the past 3-6-idekhowmany months, we could have been doing this. For the past several months, we could have had actual use of poetics and law tomes that have been collecting dust, capped for absolute ages on everyone's character, because there was nothing to spend it on. For the past several months, we could have had FATEs and beast tribe dailies and old dungeons not dried-out. And by now we (everyone, not only the bleeding-edge raiders) could have at least one weapon that's on par with the rest of our gear's level cap (that has also been there and quite easily obtainable for a month or two now, doing completely casual-difficulty tasks). And maybe, just maybe, we wouldn't be so disgruntled at the fact that by the time most of us even come close to finishing this great big air balloon, another token will be added to VA that enables everyone to have an i210 weapon doing content (once, probably) that's been a faceroll since about 2 days after its release, either.
And on a sidenote, don't even get me started on yet another batch of new tokens that we need to collect - that needs to permanently take up valuable inventory slots again, because they still can't (/ don't want to?) make all these tokens into actual special currencies, even though we have that oh-so-awesome-advanced Currency window now with so many tabs...
^ thank you, glad to see more people noticing how blatant the recycling has become.

"PS3 limitiations".
The moment they insisted they had to remove 1 single UI element that was already there for local players just for the sake of 'PS3 limitations' (TP bars) is when I gave up on them ever implementing an extra boolean/flag to send from and to the client. Let alone an additional integer/float/double for the servers to hold and keep track of.
You do realize that the entire tracking process would run server side, right? There is no need to involve the game client into it as it is as simple as the server counting the completed FATEs.
You can even make super primitive coding and reset the counter every time the zone is switched.
