So, for the beast tribes . . . does this mean we have to have all beast tribes unlocked and at a certain rank? Or any beast tribe?

All except Ixal need to be Rank 3. If you aren't Rank 3 for the ARR beast tribes, you are basically hosed for that route. Vanu Vanu have all items for purchase though, but it'll take more time since you can only accept 3 from them a day if you only do their quests.

So much in ffxiv is already handed out that really there should be atleast a few things that are not. If you think that it is a waste of time better spent elsewhere then spend the time doing other things and wait for easier to get gear until the new relics are made easier to get like the old ones were.

The problem with this concept is that some people will actually go though the effort of getting these and then SE will nerf the heck out of it negating the hard work. If the end product were something special that only a few people had, I can see those who might want to make the effort. On the other hand to simply have it nerfed to death and made obsolete after working that hard one has to really wonder if it's worth the effort. I'm still not sure what this final stage will net you and where exactly it begins.

Flawless. I'm only rank 4 with Kobolds (only did it for the mount) and max rank for Ixali. So, that means I have to rank all the others up (which takes like, what 20+ days for each one) or I cannot progress at all in the relic quest line?

That's the point. It's to give us something to do while there is lack of content, thus making is as lengthy as possible. If you don't want to do it, you don't have to.

You people white knighting it realize by the time you are done it is next patch cycle first relic to do this, and its not even something to do its cramming mindless grind that serves no purpose but over glorified glamour at this point because of said 3.2 having better shit for the next 3 months...

Some people and myself personally enjoy working towards a goal, whether it becomes pointless or not. We're not "white knighting" anything. People want everything handed to them and to put as little effort in as possible. I am pleased this isn't handed to us on a silver plate.

You have other options, like Alexander or buying the items with Law and Poetics. I believe Kobolds are ore so you can buy the other items using Law and Poetics and/or run Alexander for the other item you need.

You realise were already doing the same thing over and over right? Welcome to FFXIV. Every major patch is similar with the content it brings. Grind expert for tomes, a new 24 man raid and a harder raid. This isn't anything new.

If this is what it takes to realise the game is grindy, people have been oblivious for a long time.

Oh, I get it. So the beast tribes aren't the ONLY way to get these items. They are just one of the ways. Ok, then that's not too bad.

If the Relic is the ONLY thing you have to do in the game right now then you are doing something wrong. Those of us who are excited for the Relic intend to not only do the relic, but the rest of the game content too. I enjoy the goal of getting the relic, and I can do it while I do everything else too. I think the ONLY real issue I have is that some part of it is gated behind specialist recipes. I am an omni crafter and would prefer to be able to make this stuff myself.
