Thread: Pretending to dps in dungeons, is this a new fad?

This has been a thing in 24-mans at least for a while. I remember a lot of auto attacking dps back during Crystal Tower, although I haven't encountered any in expert lately.

If you give them a pass for doign so, they'll keep doing it. That's why if I'm an instance, I'll probably be the first to point out if someone (dps, tank or healer) is slacking. If they want to justify it and continue doing so (espesically when it's something as trivial as keeping ninja poison or Fists of fire on, or just auto attacking with no weaponskills), you can have fun with waiting for a tank, healer, or a 40+ minute run if the DPS that's taking my spot has your exact mindset.

I'm not terribly good with words or confrontation. If you notice, I had to edit my opening post a couple times to make it make more logical sense... :/ Also, I guess I'm worried about hurting someone's feelings like, maybe there is some reason they think this is how to play? If someone was just outright trolling I'd say something or leave of course. Really the people that do this, atleast in small 4 person content like this, only are wasting their own time (well mine too I guess).

The DPS in my raid group pretend to DPS all the time

I did it a lot in 24 man stuff lol.

I've seen it maybe once or twice and I just pointed it out and after one or two more groups to give other people a chance to witness it, we kicked that person - or, more likely, bot.

I pointed out that a lot of healers do this. Heal every couple hits, and round around in circles pretending do something. Every time I do so, they say it's hard to heal and dps at the same time...

Granted, I am not asking for a lot. If it's a WHM, maybe a few pops of Holy? Even just a few drops of DoTs will please me as then they are providing their part. It's like a tank not using their cd's properly. I've seen a lot of tanks not properly put out enough hate (just flash and that's it), then lose hate and then blame the others.
Before you point fingers at me, I don't burstfire with my Bard unless it's a boss during dungeons. I DoT up to 3-4 adds and use my procs to AoE if adds are only pulled in small groups. Large pulls I use all my CD's and just rambo on (at that point, tanks who overpull know what they are doing).


Unfortunately, there will always be lazy people or rather choose to play in a certain way and we cannot change that. Just ignore them, don't waste your energy and focus on doing your part, at least you know you've contributed.

I used to try to say helpful things in dungeons. Like if someone said "how to do this boss, im new", I might say 1-2 sentences to help them avoid getting one shot or whatever. Lately, I don't say anything at all, even if they ask, even if they say something incendiary to get a rise out of me. I used to chat up people all the time in the past, met some neat people that way. Now, the moment I say anything there is a 70% chance I'll end up regretting it.

Your mileage may vary of course. I just get all kinds of hate for some reason since maybe 2.0 came out if I say anything in a dungeon.
