


Aslong as the PS4 (when it does come out) uses a Cell processor there is no reason at all the PS3 wouldnt be backwards compatible, and seeing as they are developing new more powerfull Cell's they most likely will use it.
Also the PS2 limited FFXI so much due to its pathetic RAM size, I think it was 32MB + the fact Sony only allowed 8GB partitions.
The PS3 has 512MB RAM & 80-500GB harddrives so its no where near as limiting, like the other poster said IF a new console does come out there really isn't much improvement to be had over the PS3 besides barely unnoticable improved graphics or 3D support.
