PS3 and FFXIV 2.0 in 2013

I keep thinking about the whole PS3 thing, are they really going to base the game around a system that will be seven years old and probably that same year at E3 will be shown the PS4? Sony has pretty much dumped the idea of backwards compatibility before and I doubt they will even entertain the idea for the next gen system. So yeah, it doesn't seem like a good line of thinking on their part for putting out an MMO at the end of the life cycle of a system.

There hasnt been any game out that fully used a PS3`s potential(MGS4/FF13 kinda come close), who knows what it can do. :P

Not really the point. Not bashing PS3 or making this a OMG PS3 holds PC players back. Just wondering since they aren't even planing this game for release till 2013, I'd hope they are in the works of planing a head for PS4 it would make little sense to release 2.0 for PS3 if people six months later move on to PS4.

The only limitation the PS3 has is in it's memory setup, a lot of developers complained about it, but it's not a stopping block versus the PS2 which was already limited in hardware specs given it's release (2000/2001.)

Actually it is the point -- Developers haven't fully utilized the PS3...why would a system suddenly fade out just because they announce a new one, especially one that hasn't been fully realized yet? The PS2 went strong 10 years later, even after the PS3 launch and people still preferred it for the simple fact the PS3 for the most part didn't have full PSX/PS2 support and quite frankly, the launch lineup was laughable.

The PS4 won't have PSX/PS2/PS3 support either but more than likely emulation as they can bank off of people with a virtual copy instead of letting us use our hard copies we already own. We're at the point unless virtual reality is the main draw of PS4 -- gaming is in a stalemate, it can't proceed any further beyond making graphics prettier or more 3D support.

NES > SNES > N64 > Gamecube/Wii were obvious technology upgrades, PSX > PS2 > PS3 again were obvious, there's really nothing the PS4 can offer that is such a huge leap forward the PS3 will fade out of existence on it's release.

Sony has stated that it doesn't plan on a release of a new Playstation system until 2015-2016. Even then, the "PS4" would have backwards compatibility (FFXI was playable on the PS3). In no way are they really going to limit the PC version because of the PS3. Trying to compare the limitations of the PS3 and the PS2 is incomparable.

Sony already announced and is releasing the PS4 later this year in Japan.

It's called the PSVita.
