Yeah, I spent a dumb amount of time to try to get my last freaking CP + 4 materia. I really do not know. Spiritbonding takes hours as well for the new crafter gear and not even those guarantees IV as far as I know. It is a total pain in the butt.

I just finished spirit bonding the crafting class specific sets (Ilvl 55 I believe?) , and ended up with quite a few, plus a ton of basic Level 50 mats to sell, can't go wrong.

I'm still getting a fair amount of tier 3 materia even from high level (equip level 55+) gear. It seems pretty random, so it's hard to believe there is a 'best' thing.

The level 55 DoH gear from Moghome works relatively well for grade iv conversions, but you're still looking at a 50%-70% conversion rate only. If you're gathering favor items, however, you might as well spirit bond them while you're at it.

I haven't done any spirit bonding in a long time but lately I have been transmuting a lot of cheap tier4s to get my crafting. Its luck based but you might even come up w/ a tier 5 (extremely rare)

This is exactly what I did while gathering favors. You don't need HQ items or to use skills for favor stuff, so I only kept on the gear that gave me substantial Gathering and replaced all my Perception/GP gear with HQ lvl 55 (not i55, level 55 requirement) crafting gear which I quickly crafted. So long as I was going to farm favors anyway, the Tier III/IV materia from spiritbonding the crafting gear was a nice bonus.

If you're incompetent, you can’t know you’re incompetent. The skills you need to produce a right answer are exactly the skills you need to recognize what a right answer is.
