Pretending to dps in dungeons, is this a new fad?

This might be easy to get mistaken. I'm not talking about people who legitimately like up and afk in a dungeon for some reason. I'm also not talking about dps that might not be doing their best, trying their best, like maybe need more practice or even just like straight up don't care even. I am talking about dps that don't use any skills and only auto attack.

Granted, I don't run expert dungeons beyond capping esos for the week, so my sample size is probably just how ever many of those dungeons it would take to cap. However, since the newest content patch with the new dungeons, I went back to tanking them since I hadn't for a while and I'm seeing something I didn't see before. I see people dpsing by merely auto attacking and literally (i actually watch cause I'm a tank in a easy dungeon that is going very slow) they are not using any skills of any kind at all. Often, during boss fights, the boss will move a bit and they will just stand there and not even try to keep auto-attacking. They will just stand there in place, presumably waiting for the boss to come back to where they were.

Is this some new thing like when planking came out(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planking_%28fad%29) Cause no one told me, and now I feel old. In the last two weeks, nearly every dungeon I've tanked that I kept track of had one.

I should mention that I didn't say anything to these individuals, nor am I telling them how to live their life or whatever... But...what is happening... wut happen?

This has been a thing in 24-mans at least for a while. I remember a lot of auto attacking dps back during Crystal Tower, although I haven't encountered any in expert lately.

If you give them a pass for doign so, they'll keep doing it. That's why if I'm an instance, I'll probably be the first to point out if someone (dps, tank or healer) is slacking. If they want to justify it and continue doing so (espesically when it's something as trivial as keeping ninja poison or Fists of fire on, or just auto attacking with no weaponskills), you can have fun with waiting for a tank, healer, or a 40+ minute run if the DPS that's taking my spot has your exact mindset.

I'm not terribly good with words or confrontation. If you notice, I had to edit my opening post a couple times to make it make more logical sense... :/ Also, I guess I'm worried about hurting someone's feelings like, maybe there is some reason they think this is how to play? If someone was just outright trolling I'd say something or leave of course. Really the people that do this, atleast in small 4 person content like this, only are wasting their own time (well mine too I guess).

I doubt they'll get geninuely offended if you call someone for doing less than auto attacks. I mean honestly at level 60, you'd have to have a basic understanding of your job at this point. The only way you can't is if you absolutely did not read anything, which also won't get you far in life in general.

The problem with reading on forums is misinformation. I lucked out on Dragoon as someone put up a priority system instead of a rotation, and that is wonderful when level sync neuters you and takes away key abilities instead of just weakening them.

A rotation is just an ideal way of handling your priority system. Every job has a priority system and you can correctly execute a good rotation when you understand why you're using the skills you're using, and why you're using them in the order you're using them. Blindly using a set of skills without knowing "why" is very foolish, so I definitely agree with you.

In Google's era if someone at 60 think auto-attack is the way to go they're just not giving a -fawk- that they're not valuing your time and prolly thinking you're a npc of some sorts. Why care?
