I took a break after finishing the 3.0 story, and that seems to have been the right call. Namely I was able to rest and when I came back, really enjoy the content that is out there. The issue with only two dungons in the level 60 roulette and expert roulette gets old fast, to the point I only run the expert to get caught up on my Esos.

I'm enjoying the game as I get caught up on a lot of the content I took a break from, but I understand where people are coming from. I'm really looking forward to 3.2 to really drive this game forward. Thankfully it's not that far off, and getting back to a 3 month cycle for patches is going to help keep players engaged.

The overwhelming amount of gating they added to all aspects of the 3.0-series so far has been about as off-putting and alienating as I've ever felt in this game.
I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Another major issue with savage is the weekly cap.

My friends don't go without their static because they'd get less chests if they clear and the rest of their static would be angry and vice versa. This causes people to only practice with their own static <...<. Look at thordan. Sure its a lot easier than a3s, but way harder than a2/a1s and even so due to no weekly cap people actually farm it all the time with randoms.

The game has kept me interested to date by always having something I wanted, gated behind a challenge. The feeling of working hard towards something, and finally getting it, was awesome. There isn't really anything currently that I would like, except for maybe an a4s weapon, which is obviously very difficult to get (rightly so). Everything else has been INCREDIBLY easy to obtain, gated behind nothing except time, and the will to mindlessly grind over and over again until it drops. 210 gear = diadem. ponies = unsynched zerg ignoring all mechanics. upgrades = faceroll void ark. crafting/gathering gear = favors.

Raiding used to be fun, and final getting the down and the next slice of the story, sometimes after weeks/months of effort, was great, that moment when the boss would finally die, the CS starts and everyone starts shouting in teamspeak. We still haven't quite got a3s down yet, but I know when we got the first two down, no-one was excited at all, more like "thank fk that's over, now lets just get the fk out of here"

This is true. The static I'm isn't interested in even starting alex savage without being 8/8 to make sure we aren't having communication issues. And parties these days seem to demand knowing a1s and a2s front to back...making a2s difficult to learn.

Void ark is sleep inducing. Honestly the real mechanic is fighting the sandman while dealing with these bosses.

Diadem, I like the premise, but the meta made it into something less fun. That and alliances were sabotaged.

3.1 just, slowly displeased people, in almost every aspect.

Moogle is still fairly populated (usually a small queue to get in) but I have been playing a lot because I have been power leveling classes and outside of that, not much, I mean I hope on for Esoterics, Void Ark and general shenanigans with friends, but I can see myself taking another break down the line.

All of thisis stuff that people regularly complained about and made suggestions about on this forum, other forums; and I would presume similar feedback at fan events and/or confidential survey/feedback.

Considering the relatively positive reception for ARR, and the lack luster raider response to HW, I'd say that Yoshi and the dev team are better off following their own vision instead of trying to satisfy the conflicting and sometimes contraditcory fan feedback.
I think the issue is that most, if not all, of these things weren't implemented in a way that corresponded with what people were actually asking for.

New loot rules: The token system used for the Extreme Primals and Savage hits the mark fairly well. Alexander Normal's system misses the mark because it doesn't serve the intended purpose of a token system, which is to provide insurance against long streaks of bad luck. On the contrary, if your luck is bad you'll end up having to run Alexander Normal many times over for no result, which is exactly what people were requesting a token system to counter.

Two difficulty tiers/No story gated behind raids: The main requests of this nature were for those people who weren't serious raiders to be able to see the story. Although SE satisfied that, they effectively did so by removing the existing raiding difficulty (that of Coil). If you review the old threads requesting the addition of a story difficulty, you'll see people time and again saying that they very specifically did not want to deprive raiders of what they already had, they just wanted a chance to experience the story content that was linked to it.

Open world free-form content other than hunts (Diadem)/More accessible content that doesn't require a static: Although Diadem was added, it was done so in one of the least innovative and creative manners possible. The content is very similar to existing open world content like FATEs and Hunts, in that the only particularly efficient way to make use of it was to just throw as many people as possible at the monsters and kill them until loot appeared. Even the changes to the system don't really change that all that much; you just separate out a little more. I've seen many, many suggestions of different things that could have been included in Diadem that would have made it much more interesting and compelling content.

Crafting specialist instead of mandatory omni-crafters: Omni-crafting is still effectively mandatory if you want to do any high level crafting. The other thing that most people specifically said they didn't want coming with specializations was recipes that only specialists could create, which is unfortunately the only thing that the specializations are currently useful for.

End-game content for crafting/gathering: It's difficult to say that this was really provided. There's a currency system now, but I don't think any crafter/gatherer looked at tomestones in 2.x and went "Wow, what compelling and fun-looking game play, I wish we had something exactly like that." There's nothing particularly "end-game" about red scrips, or even anything that differs all that much from the level 50 experience.

The fact that content exists does not mean that everyone will find that content fun or interesting.

To suggest that it's impossible to be bored if you've not "beaten" every single piece of content in a game is simply asinine.

100 and 10 percent agree here. Player need something to do past level 60 to upgrade their characters and changing armor sets every 3 months just isn't cutting it. FFXI did get it right by adding the Merit System. WoW got it wrong by adding the talent tree at the start instead of the end. The problem FFXIV 3.0 is suffering from isn't the grind but the rewards for it. The content is fun to play but having to repeat over and over for meh rewards sucks. Yoshi-P needs to seriously consider adding something akin to Talent Tree and Merit System sooner rather than later.

P.S. Also following WoW route of killing older content with new content isn't helping either.
