network socket error. Something is likely interfering with your session (security), or the IP/Port configuration is getting knackered up somehow (malware, UPnP wigging out, or port forwarding mishap). Could also just be something odd going on along the specific route you are taking.

If you have configured port forwarding for XIV, try disabling it. If UPnP is active, try disabling it (known issue for consoles, has been known to do weird things in Winblows as well). Make sure your Windows Defender/firewall/antivirus applications have exceptions set for the FFXIV executables and running processes.

Should note that some antivirus programs have a separate exception list for running processes within the scope of the network protections--might need to add an entry for the FFXIV processes there as well (could be blocking them from the internet after they launched). If you recently updated your antivirus, this could be a new feature with the current version or it may have somehow gotten reset during the update.

As always, it's a good idea to periodically run malware scans. If you don't have something already, may want to try the free version of MalwareBytes Anti-Malware. It is a tool that many companies refer customers to when they have a troublesome new security risk they are dealing with--no small names either, names like Symantec (Norton), McAfee, Kaspersky.
