    Have you not seen how tanking works late game where damage can get really high at times? And you want to use a move where you lose more HP on top of it just for the sake of extra DPS? Think about it. No, give it a serious thought. You want a tank to pump out more DPS by using a skill that eats away at their HP while playing a job where their role is to soak up damage from all enemies while asking a healer to try to heal faster. Now throw this on top of debuffs that screws up a tank's defense and add some potential critical hits and you're going to suffer nothing but wipes just because the tank wanted to put out MAD DEEPS for the sake of beating something 2 minutes quicker. And you can forget about having tanks doing huge pulls in dungeons if this is the sort of move you want in the game.

    In an action RPG game where you can heal at the drop of a hat by popping your potions back to back. However I can't recall of any mmorpg where your tank used his own HP to boost damage. Plus as was said, with how fast the damage can come from bosses, the last thing I would need is the tank trying to squeeze a bit of extra damage only to drop his own HP to the danger zone and get himself killed.

    Im against something like this too. A tank damaging themselves is counterintuitive and more to the point it will be poorly used all the damn time. DRK heal regeneration is a mitigation tool for them and is baked into their balance. Any skill that causes the DRK to damage themselves will fall to the healers to deal with.

    That's ignoring the fact that it would in a hell of a lot of cases be used poorly in DF making DRKs extremely unpopular to heal.

    DRKs are fine as they are.

    Souleater, only useable outside of Grit effect. Sacrifices HP for a huge burst of damage.
    Like how WAR got Deliverance at 52, DRK could get more dps utility with more job quests.

    Unsurprisingly, with the FFXIV dev team wanting DRK as a tank, they have no abilities like this. In FFXI, though, DRK is a DPS class which does just this. The FFXIV dev team tends to try to differentiate this game from FFXI since they appeal to different audiences.

    why even considering adding a skill that would kill you !!

    "P1 -why ? whats happend ?, you got a plasma ?, lack of dps ? resine ?"
    "P2 - no, none of this ..."
    "P1 - so how ?!"
    "P2 - well i wanted to be something else of my job, and tryed a dps skill ... problem, that skill eat my HP to do dmg ...
    i used it, and just after a tank buster arrived, i died ... we wiped, i got kicked ..."

    I could see it working well with Living Dead.

    It would be a neat skill combo but at a 5 minute CD there would need to be other creative uses.

    They kept the idea of hp sacrifice alive for dark knight, but switched it to MP sacrifice instead. It's a mechanic you have to carefully balance, but there is no risk of falling over dead if you get it wrong.

    There are a ton of single player game ideas that just don't work in an mmo, and keeping them just for the sake of tradition usually makes certain parts of your game horribly awkward. Dragonquest X had this issue related to whether or not mp recovery items should be sold in stores, which was a major break from DQ tradition. They ended up putting them in stores, but marked the prices up to insane rates. Coupled with a general lack of MP recovering skills and the preference to restore your HP and MP in Inns, my Thief spent more time stealing recovery items and spamming them on party members than actually fighting enemies. I think on most bosses I was more of a vending machine than a fighter.

    MP sacrifice is suit for lore of them too because they use darkside power that hurt their mind more than physical effect.

    Some folks already have issues about the current HP levels on Dark. Although it seems to be fairly on par with Paladin when capped for lv 50 content. Sacrificing Hp for damage means it would not be a tank, and even as a DPS it wont live through most raids especially if it means the Healer needs to keep curing them more often than the tank.
