Players should be able to play music in-game!

So I've been thinking about it a lot. Since FFXI, we've always had really nice music, and I've always appreciated Naoshi Mizuta's work. Masayoshi Soken's work has made FFXIV a truly wonderful experience. This idea that I'm going to suggest is that players should be able to pick up an instrument too.

How it would work is like this: Players can take out an instrument and play an instrument to accompany the background music, or go out to areas and play songs on their own. Just enjoying the songs that they play.

You would be able to play solo, or go into a party of 8 and pick a variety of instruments like lutes, drums, violins/fiddles, flutes, etc. And people would come to enjoy the music that you and your band are playing, or you can enjoy it just within your own group.

This feature would be great to make use of the /gpose option, and also give fans of the music of FFXIV and FFXI to enjoy as well. It would be used to pass the time and enjoy the company of friends.

Obviously, there will be options of whether or not you would want to listen to music. There would be an option for players in the system settings to listen to bands play, so you're not interrupting an experience for anyone else.

The point of this feature is so that players or friends can have an immersive experience themselves and become part of their environment as well.

I would imagine, that this would require 3 to 5 songs that have their own melodies and harmonies for each instrument. I would refer to Legend of Mana's feature of getting Mana to come closer to you by playing magical instruments.

It's a huge undertaking, of course, but I think it would make the game that much more pleasant.

I would hope so. A lot my complaints are easily solved by doing something social. And we could always use more social things when playing an MMO. If FFXI could have bells, then we can have this.

Some other mmos have ACTUAL playable instruments, it would be so much fun to go around playing "starlight celebration songs ohohoh!" songs with a band.
We have dances, but no player bands and music to dance to

I have also asked for something close to this, but your idea is so much more, I would love to see this make it's way to the game. I would love it without a doubt, and I think many others would too. Alot of other MMO's have their instruments, why can't we have our's as well?

I know they do on Guild Wars II or something or some such.

Technically there already is musical instruments in the game that players can access (not including the BRD's bowharp of course ) - they're furnishings for FC/player housing and are based on similar instruments seen as background items in Haukke Manor. You can click on them and they play a few eerie chords corresponding to what instrument it is (also, surprisingly, the manor harpsichord.... sounds like a piano, which any musician should be able to tell you is a totally different instrument with a completely different sound!).

A modification which would allow players to actually play them with actual musical notation sounds like an amazing idea, especially as several earlier FF games allowed you to do this (FFV, VII and VIII spring to mind).

Orchestrion

We’ve kept you all waiting for quite some time now, but this is the jukebox that I’ve been talking about for a while.

You’ll be able to place this in the inn, house, and private chamber, and it will play music if you have the music sheets for it. These music sheets can be obtained through various content and we will also be selling them in-game as well. There will also be an individual log of what sheets you’ve acquired, so I think it will be fun as a collectable element. Of the sheets you can acquire, there will also be those that can be created by Disciples of the Hand. Additionally, you’ll be able to obtain a song as an achievement for collecting 10. Orchestrion music sheets are scattered throughout various content such as Gold Saucer and battle-related content. They can also be traded. We’ll be implementing 47 songs in Patch 3.2, and we plan on releasing around 20-30 songs in updates afterwards.

Yeah, I knew about the furnishings already and it was just... a little annoying that we have them but can't really "play" them. Not to mention, restricted from people who are outside of a house's players aren't allowed to interact with them. So they're just sitting there all fancy. It WOULD be nice if they could improve upon those.
