    Adoption/New Companions?

I know this is an extremely...different idea that is not likely to ever happen. I’m also sure that I’ll get roasted for even considering it, but I am still hoping we do get something similar to what I’m suggesting.

Marriage has been in the game for about a year now. Players having children of their own would be a difficult thing to put together, since Ros and Lalas can marry, any other combo of races, and homosexual couples. In lore terms, I’m sure there were plenty of little ones orphaned in Eorzea, considering the calamity and all. So why not add adoption?

The system could work the same way making a retainer does, only it would be in a two player way. One parent would start the design, the other parent would get their turn after, then go back to the first parent. They could go back and forth, tweaking the look, job/class, and personality until they were happy with the result. Up to two children per couple would be nice, by the way.

After that, they could choose where to place them: either parents’ house, or either parents’ FC room. From there, they could have different dialogue depending on the personality chosen, who they are talking to (mother/father/stranger/someone on either parent’s friend list?), or what holiday is close.

Just that would be fun, but SE doesn’t add anything without it having some kind of player benefit, such as how marriage has those handy rings and the two seater mount. This is where the rest of my idea comes in...>_>

What if the children could be used like chocobos, as well? Their leveling system could be similar, their clothing would be like barding, and you could summon them like party members? The only major difference may be that they can only be one job at a time, unlike chocobos. Also, being able to see them in town settings, like how minions are, would be ideal, too.

    So...what do you guys think?

Adoption isn't likely to be seen in the game. I get where you're coming from, and I do like the idea, but SE won't let players have children in the game because while the vast majority of players would treat them as intended, there are always the, (hopefully vast minority), group of people who would, let's just say, not. It's a tale as old as time, a small group ruins something so that the larger group as a whole can't have it......

Also, you can edit your post to bypass the 1000 character limit.....

I don't see how people could do weird stuff with a kid following you around any more than they could with a chocobo.
If they had the clothing options as controled as barding is, and no more optional interacts than chocobos or retainers, what could people get away with?
There are already children npcs in the game, and I haven't seen anyone getting weird with them.

It's an interesting concept, but since it's basically something you describe being very similar to chocobo companions, it's not something I can see taking off, since we have that system after all.
Plus, since you pulled the adoption thing from the lore, you may want to consider the implications of this:
You are taking an orphaned child (from the ingame design children look about 10-ish years old), training it and making it fight by your - an adult that chose this path of life - side against bloodthirsty monsters AND humanoids in acts that generally kill your enemies. ._.
I don't care about what weird stuff players might be doing to them, just the implications of this concept creep me out. But maybe I am just dark ._.

I can however, see "adoption" working for say a wounded animal that later becomes a companion once we follow the quests, tend to it and heal it up (in a similar fashion to the chocobo stable, as in seeing it there, tending/feeding/healing), granted I'd like to see it as players having a choice of what animal they rescue based on certain choices or questions answered. Then again the whole "I want em all" then gets thrown up...meh.

Your idea I OK, but I wouldn't want that. I'm OK with just retainers. If you would tell me I can adopt a friend to become the child of the marriage and SE can give some buffs features, then I ll be all for it.

Eh... I don't RP myself, but even with the very loose headcanon I have about my character's personality, I can't see him willingly having a small child on the battlefield with him unless there were extenuating circumstances (perhaps he's attacked during a rescue, etc). Yes Alphinaud and Alisae are very young but they're far from children and they're already skilled Arcanists in their own right. We're called upon to go out to face the most powerful threats to the realm simply because we're what the realm has to combat them with. Consider that many times the threat turns out to be a primal - would you want to even risk exposing an orphaned child to tempering? I find even the thought of it nothing short of chilling. We have the Echo. They... probably don't.

I don't think we'll see anything like this for the same reasons we won't see child characters anytime soon.
