At least they didn't replace English with more different English this time, like with Defender, Invincible, Circle of Doom....
Defender and Foresight are actually both different skills that were in the original skill set of Marauders in 1.0, back when the game first game out, and Marauder got an enmity buff by standing still... I presume this is what you're taking about. Defender had a different animation from foresight. It involved 3 pink octagonal rings spinning around the MRD for 3 seconds when the skill activated. It did the same thing as FFXI defender in that it reduced attack power and raised defense with the additional benefit of boosting enmity gain. The original flaw with MRD tanks in 1.0 though was standing still... Of course, originally, Foresight served to make the next attack 100% parried. When the classes were remodeled, Foresight became a defense boosting skill, and it wasn't until Raw Intuition that a parry skill for WAR came back. Circle of Doom and Invincible also have parallels now, but were different skills.

Nope. Defender = Defiance, Invincible = Hallowed Ground, Circle of Doom = Circle of Scorn. Japanese names have never changed.

Defender is still a Warrior skill... it's just called "Defiance" in English, because [insert overreaching loc team reason]. Destroyer is their offensive stance, and War Cry is the true name of Infuriate. I guess they thought English speakers would be confused by a skill that gives you the "Infuriated" status if it wasn't called Infuriate. Defender/Destroyer make a good pair. Too bad they aren't in English.

Invincible and Circle of Doom (in English) are the JP client names of Hallowed Ground/Circle of Scorn. Like, when something is just 3 kanji that sound cool in Japanese but might be weird in English ("lunatic cherry blossom" or "shippu jinrai") I understand changing it entirely, but these are English words in the JP client and stuff like "war cry" is a common term.

The worst loc team rename has got to be the White Knight and Bloody Warrior titles to Meat Shield and Meat Axe. You'll notice they didn't do this with the DRK title because they don't want to have Meat Sword as a title in the game.

Or you know, the whole thing about Knight (ナイト) being renamed Paladin in English. Because being a free paladin (palace knight) makes more sense than being a free knight? I mean, knight certainly wasn't the name of a class in Final Fantasy 1, 3, 5, 9, 12, tactics, chocobo dungeon, etc. And why not change the name of an entire class, because you'll NEVER encounter a situation later where the Japanese development team is using the name of the class a certain way, and your new name doesn't work quite right in that situation? Nah, that wouldn't happen.

This is one I let slide, because it has precedent in FFXI and it makes sense (mostly). In FF, Knight and Paladin skill sets have pretty much been the same (Swords, 2hand, Cover, minor White Magic). In XIV, especially with how free paladins are described, we're pretty much supposed to be what the inspiration for the modern paladin character class is - a heroic superknight with some supernatural power. It's kind of an "all paladins are knights but not all knights are paladins" thing.

Another reason they probably translated it this way though is to distinguish between the jobclass Knight and, for example, an Ishgardian knight. In Japanland you can do ナイト/騎士 (though I haven't looked at the Japanese script at all and my Japanese is terrible, so maybe they don't), but we can't. Also maybe they wanted to avoid having Knight, Dragon Knight, and Dark Knight.

Also by "the worst change" I really meant I just want those titles. The actual worst is probably the -ra/-aga spell naming tiers being changed. Still think that's unneeded.

I have no issues with Elixir Field. I definitely think that "White Knight" and "Bloody Warrior" are way better than "Meat Shield" and "Meat Axe," though. Jeez, way to drop the ball with those ones.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone actually use those titles. They don't sound cool, they sound gross.

I used Meat Shield when using my WAR back in 2.0, since it made more sense than using it on PLD. Dunno why PLD would be a "meat shield" when all that meat is behind an actual... shield...

You can get the names for other versions from XIVDB or directly from the Lodestone. I'm not sure if anyone has sat down and done a direct translation of all the abilities in the game, but since I'm putting off work I need to do I made you a thing:
